1987? Yes, it makes a big difference. Back in 1987 Mexico had a different money system. $2000 pesos of today would be around $190 US Dlls. But $2000 pesos of back then, I just don't think they will change them for you. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose. As for how it works... you just give them the money and tell them you want American currency. It's a very quick transaction.
Now, here is another thing. If you buy American money from Mexican pesos= it is less than a dollar per peso.
If you buy Mexican pesos from American dlls.= it is about $10 pesos and something per dollar.

Sorry. It is the equivalent of $2 "new" pesos, or about 20 cents and cannot be exchanged.

It really depends how old your bill note is. in 1993 mexico changed all the currency and took away 3 ceros. So if your note is older than 1993 it may only be worth 2 pesos now. and that is about 18 US cents.

you just go to one of the thousand money exchange places in the airport and give the guy money and tell him to give you back dollars, you dont need any IDs or anything, unless the bill is like 50 years old it has probably already expired, as of today you get like 10.50 pesos per dollar so you make the math. it will probably just take you about 5 mins to get your dollars

Peso versus dollar varies with the strength of the dollar on foreign markets, like the stock market it changes all the time but currently it is in the vicinity of 10 to one so 194.00 is probably close. You should be able to go to any major bank and convert it to Dollars, I am sure there will be a fee of some sort since banks charge for everything. I doubt you need ID but be sure you have some just in case.

There will be a small difference in the conversion rate they give you, based on the current rate and their cut. It shouldn't be more than $10.00 difference.

You shouldn't have to show ID.

They are just changing from one currency to another, nothing to it. The only thing that would take time is if there is a line

No pesos never expire but the exchange rate against the US dollar changes over time.
