Puerto vallarta versus cancun?

vayate a puerto vallarta es muy bonito y es mas barato. tiene ese essensia mexicana mientras que cancun esta americanizado. yo soy el naco de yahoo answers y yo te lo recomiendo.

I've been to both... I prefer PV.

Maybe its just me, but Cancun is more for the party scene... when I went I did lots of partying.

I went to PV for my honeymoon, so maybe I am biased based on my circumstances, but I think PV while still very touristy with lots of Canadians is a bit more of a vacation spot if you want to avoid the party college crowd.

Like you said, Cancun is very americanized and very full of tourists. However, if you don't speak Spanish, its a lot easier to communicate with the Mexicans there because so many more speak English. I found Puerto Vallarta to be much more relaxing and a lot calmer, the markets are great shopping places because they actually sell stuff that looks like it came from Mexico and you don't find three dozen stores sell t-shirts with various patterns of Cancun. I also found that the prices there are much cheaper and you can find great jewerly and other souveniers (sorry about the spelling) for a much better value.
Cancun has certainly a wider variety of hotels but the beaches compare pretty evenly. Of course Puerto Vallarta still has all the luxurious hotels, just not as many of them. The ocean in Cancun though, is much prettier. It still has all the activites too i.e. Scuba Diving (though Cancun has much better locations), Trips to Native Ruins, Snorkleing, Dune Buggy Rides through the mountains (I highly recommend), and Zip Line Adventures. There service is still very amazing there

i've been to both places.
if you want white sandy beaches, warm water go to cancun.
the sand is not hot, there.
i found pv water too cold too strong currents to get in, and the sand was more like hot dirt.
cancun, has really upscale shopping, plus the regular touristy junk.
yes americanized with johnny rockets, margaritaville.
after the hurricane a few years ago, most of the hotels have had up dates, so nice and clean and new.

PV is just across the bay from Cabo. Same situation as Cabo, just more Canadians. 30,000 Canadians live in PV part of the year. They have a Euro-Anglo Influence on local society.

Can Cun is the place to go. Lots of tourist, but the atmosphere is still Mexico.

Less tourist have been collateral damage in the drug wars of Can Cun than in PV where gang war fare is taking place in the middle of the tourist areas.
