DON'T waste your time and money to rent a car in CancĂșn. There is no need for it. CancĂșn has an excellent transportation service. They drive extremely crazy in CancĂșn. If you aren't use to it you be run over and can get turned around very easily. If you plan on going to the clubs like CoCo Bongo, Senor Frogs, etc. there really is no room to park. The hotel strip is narrow and tight. Taxi cabs and buses will cut you off and if you don't understand Spanish you might have some trouble figuring out what the road signs say. It's just more headache than what it's worth for the common vacationer to go through. Stick with the buses. They are always on time and are on a five minute schedule so you never have to wait long for one. Good luck in whatever you choose. Enjoy your time!!! |

My advice to you would be to use Cancun's public transportation. Very safe and reliable and cheap, taxis are great choice as too as long as you negotiate the price with the driver first. Cancun is not a very big island at all so anywhere you travel except for the mayan ruins which is like 3 hours away is pretty close by and a short bus/taxi ride. Using the bus/taxi also eliminates any hassle driving around there and knowing where you are going. Also if you are the party type of person there are a lot of bars and clubs and you wouldnt want to get caught drinking and driving in a foreign country. |

I have heard some scary stories too, even on the news. I wouldn't rent a car, save the money and walk or take a taxi! Good Luck and have fun! |

I rented a car when I was in Playa Del Carmen and drove it to Cancun for my second week of vacationing. Within 5 minutes of me entering Cancun's hotel zone, i was pulled over because they said I ran a red light while was 100% green. The car rental companies put advertisements on alot of the car so they are easily seen to be tourists. Public transportation in Cancun is fantastic. It gets harder to find a bus after midnight, but thats fine. get a cab. make sure you find out the price before you get in the car. otherwise you will get screwed over when u get to ur destination. |

I've been to Mexico about 20 times and have always rented a car. I've had zero problems with police. I've driven from Mexico City to Chichen Itza and from there up to Guadalajara and back to DF over the course of three weeks. It was a great trip. |

hahahahaha
It's fine to rent a car.... I think it would be more dangerous to get a taxi..
There is not problem with the police and Quintana Roo and CancĂșn are safe....
just do not drink and drive.... that, would be very dangerous..
Have a nice trip
Welcome to Mexico
