10% so far, there are fancy places that you can leave 15% if you feel very satisfied with the service but culturaly and socially well accepted 10%..OK

No actually, is would suggest a 10percent time because it is easy to figure but a 15percent tip will be well liked.

Remember, they may not get taxed on their tips so you can give 10%

same in the US. but if it's bad service, give them what you think is fair.
and sometimes in the bathrooms in the restaurants, there is a little bowl near the sink and it's polite if you drop a few coins in there.
some restaurants do this so they maintain the bathrooms clean for you...i know that Sanborns (restaurant) does this.

I travel in northern Mexico a lot. If you are in a tourist area and in a tourist restaurant, then I would tip like you where in the US. However, if you are in a rural area or a locals restaurant, tipping is different. It would not be considered cheap to leave only 50 cents or a dollar (5 or 10 peso coin). Most Mexicans do not tip at a typical restaurant. Also, the service in such places are not as good as a higher end restaurant. This goes hand in hand. Most small restaurants don't expect it. Also, if your eating tacos, I doubt the meal came to much more then a few dollars anyhow.

Most mom and pop restaurants are very casual. I think of it as you don't tip at a fast food restaurant but you would at Olive Garden. Most mom and pop little places offer service like a fast food shop. You order, they bring it to your table and that is it. So tipping isn't that important.

Do not let you affluence mandate that you tip. This could be considered an insult. Literally throwing your money around.

It's like 20 peso's to every dollar so $2 should be fine.

We personally leave a minimum of 20% because we spend a great deal of our time in a few of our favorite restaurants. With this percentage, we are guaranteed personal attention and excellent service. These folks work hard at their jobs, and are always eager to please. If you are having a quick lunch or other services, 15% is sufficient. If you are staying at a nice hotel for more than a few days, I'd suggest giving the employees a little something extra, just for being there to take care of things. I like to keep them happy, because at the same time, they are keeping me happy.

Remember, in most places you are paying in pesos, not USD. The exchange rate is between 10-14%, so in actuality you are saving money. Just remember that when leaving their tips.

Where we live in northern Mexico, 10% is considered quite generous. We do not live in a tourist area, so this maybe why... You also need to remember, that when you are figuring that 10%, taxes are ALREADY included in the total, so you are actually already figuring that 10% on TOP of the taxes.

In many countries, including Mexico, automatically include the tip in the bill. Mexican restaurants, especially in the tourists areas, do not advertise the fact that the tip (propina) is included in the bill. When the tip is included in the bill it's usually 15%. If the tip is not included 10% will suffice.

10% if the service wasn't that good but still deserves a tip
15% is regular tipping in Mexico for good service.
16-20% depending on how good the service was or if it is a large party (5 or more), anything more than that would be excessive, unless of course you completely, absolutely fell in love with the service and the place.
