Riu resorts - where to stay? |
My husband and I won a trip off the radio and we have to choose a RIU resort from Los Cabos, Punta Cana, Jamaica, Peurto Vallarta, Cancun or the Riviera Maya. We stayed at the Barcelo Maya resort last year in Riviera Maya and loved it, so we were thinking of the Riviera Maya again, but would like opinions since it would be nice to try something new. We would mainly be going to relax or a possible fishing trip, we are not much into the night life. If you have been to one of the RIU resorts in these places and recommend or don't recommend it please let us know why so we can figure out the best choice. Thanks! |

The Riu Cancun is very centrally located in Cancun and is very close to shopping and entertainment. You will also have the ability to use the Riu Caribe which is further up the road. If you can upgrade to the Riu Palace Las Americas which is right next door to the Riu Cancun I would highly recommend it. We have been to the Riu Palace Las Americas several times and will be there again in early May. |

I've stayed at Riu Cancun (not the Americas one) twice before and absolutely loved it. Of course there is a lively night life in Cancun, but there are plenty of day excursions you can do too. The standard of the hotel and food is excellent. Hope you enjoy wherever you go! |

Wow, congratulations on your winning a fantastic trip.
My choice would be between these 3 resorts. Tripadvisor is a great resource for recent reviews and I have included those links with my top 3
If Riu Palace Las Americas is one of your Riu choices

I would choose Cancun or Puerto Vallarta.
Both are nice places, but Cancun has a lot more to see than Vallarta. |

The Riu Cancun is amazing. No matter what floor you are on (i think i remember there was 15) you have the most spectacular views of the gulf. The service and the food are wonderful there too! Have fun! |

The only one I went to was Los Cabos, it was BEAUTIFUL!! BUT, they were building a hotel right next to the hotel and the workers were staring and loud. That was about 6 months ago so maybe it is done. Also, they have a beautiful beach, but you can't swim because the the current is way too strong. They have two beautiful pools, one was the party group and the other side were non party . I still had a good time though. Food was not the best....Look on the Internet, and try to compare. |

Also call 1-888-862-3806 for help booking.
They will give you ideas for fun too like:
Definately the Swim with Dolphins, this is fantastic especially if you go to Dolphin Discovery on Isla Mujeres, as you have a 40 minute boat ride there and back with open bar and entertainment.
The Captain Hook Pirate ships are another fun thing to try.
A Jungle tour through the mangroves, with snorkelling over the Coral reefs.
Xcaret is a wonderful day out, as you get to enjoy an ecopark, with dolphins, turtles ect and then get to watch probably the best show in the whole of Mexico at night.
A catamaran trip with http://www.cancuncatamarans.com is a must, a day sailing and snorkeling, with buffet lunch on Isla Mujeres, open bar, a shopping trip and the chance to have your picture taken holding a live shark.
At night, try the Cancun Party Hopper, there are now 2 different versions going to different bars, and they are great fun.
Hope this helps. |
