NOOOOO Don't cancel! It's just media bs!! The cancÃºn area is extra safe and I guarantee you'll love the place! I've been there four times and nothing has ever happened to me.
Drug dealers never mess with civilians and all the area has a lot of police and vigilance.
Some tourists come to Mexico to get drunk, walk with the camera hanging on their neck and buy drugs... that is the only way you can get in trouble, but you can get in trouble if you do this in NY, Texas, Washington, Miami, Russia... it's a matter of using your common sense. Really! don't cancel, there is no violence in that area. Besides, food is great, sea is blue, fish are colorful... it's heaven on earth!

I agree with everyone (almost), do not cancel your trip there is no reported violence against tourists that are there for the right thing which is for holidays and not dealing drugs. I'm going again soon and just can't get enough of the place, the locals are friendly and ocean is so beautiful and there's so much to do.

Not sure where you traveling from but in canada our government post travel warnings, and there is one posted.

I just got back from a 6 week vacation to Mazatlan, Sinaloa...the drug cartels got their start here!

Had a very enjoyable time and will go back next year for 6 weeks and eventually for 6 months when I retire!

It is safe, but if you cancel because of being afraid, remember to not cross the street anywhere on earth because you might get hit by a car or horse and wagon.

Tens of thousands of people have already gone to the Cancun area this year and all have returned safely--but maybe a little hung over.

I would be worried if i were travelling to any place in the border, where there have been conflicts but Cancun, not at all.
Cancun is really far far away from any problem.
Don't cancel. I went a month ago and everything is great there.
By the way, I agree this is media BS, because of the recession they want American people going to Miami, California or anyplace in the US and not go to Mexico to spend your dollars, which are worth like 15 pesos for every dollar now.

I would cancel IMO. who wants a vacation that could turn into your last trip anywhere. There are lots of other places right here in America that make for great vacations. Im not saying that something couldnt happen to you no matter you go, but the odds are better for trouble in Mexico..
