I would recommend Hep A shot. You can contact Hep A through drinking unpurified water/ice, swimming.
An oral vaccine for traveller's diarrhea is Dukoral and is effective for 3 months..Two doses, first dose at least 3 weeks before travel. See your doctor; easy to use! |

Gee! They exaggerate big time. Just don't drink tap water, buy a bottle or broil it for 10 min. You don't need any shots, against hepatitis, drug dealers or anything! you are not going to the jungle... And by the way, in the area of San Luis Potosà you can buy some chocolates called "constanzo", I fully recommend them. |

First the only parts of Mexico where you might want to get shots are interior jungle which doesn't apply to SLP or the surrounding area.
Just about everyone drinks bottled water here. The tap water might be fine but it not only depends on how clean the infrastructure pipes are, but also the storage tanks at where ever you are staying. Not worth the risk when bottled water is so cheap and plentiful.
ADD: The statements about water and ice in restaurants were true years ago, but not now. I avoid the roadside, no refrigerator type places but anywhere else has not been a problem. IMHO tourist places are more suspect than clean restaurants where Mexicans themselves eat. If a restaurant gets a bad reputation word spreads fast, but places where tourists go don't rely on repeat business, so they are not as careful.
Same goes with eating fresh produce. Virtually everyone washes their produce in iodine drops so eating fresh salsa or salads is no longer a problem. |

Not only should you get shots for everything you can , ( around San Luis Potosi it is not the tropical jungle: ever heard about the Sierra Gorda??) but you should get shot for risking into interior Mexico knowing as little as you do about the risks you are taking: and I am not talking about bacteria or virus, I m talking about criminals. |
