The best and easiest place on a cruise ship stop is Chankanaab Park.You can rent gear there.They also have a restuarant and bathrooms.Any cab driver will know where it is.Be sure to agree on a price before getting in the taxi.
There is a per person admission charge.( US$15 +/-)

Chankanaab means little sea. It has evolved into a world renowned ecosystem The lagoon is approximately 74 by 46 meters and its depth varies from 1 to 3.5 meters.

Chankanaab is very likely the best known place in Cozumel. Its crystal clear water, the reef just under the water level a few steps makes Chankanaab one of the finest places in the world for snorkeling. It is also the best place for you who haven't practiced your scuba diving skills for a long time and want to get in shape again.

But Chankanaab is not just one of the best places in the world for snorkeling and shallow diving. The park also has a botanical garden where you may see many tropical trees, bushes and flowers. The botanical garden also has many replicas of some of the best representations of prehispanic monuments, especially Mayan.

Check for a shore excursion that goes snorkeling, unless you are planning to take your own equipment. Every thing will be ready for you. If you have your own equipment and want to go on your own, ask some of the ship employees. They know the areas and hear guests talking about where they've been, so they probably know some good spots.

When we went to Cozumel on a cruise we took the jeep eco excursion. It was so much fun. We got to ride a jeep thru the jungle, then take a boat ride to a deserted beach. There we had a picnic lunch, (provided by excursion), and got to spend a few hours at the beach. Some of the people with us went snorkeling at that beach.

Chunkanab or if you go on an excursion make sure you go to Palancar Reef. Just got back from Cozumel. I'm an avid diver and recommend Papa Hogs Dive Shop, however being on a cruise you may be better off scheduling through them.

Chankanaab State Park is absolutely breathtaking, but I would do some research because Katrina blew away all the sand and a couple of years ago it was still in the process of being replaced. The nicest place in the Caribbean.

After you leave the ship you can ask anyone where to go. Chankanab is a great place to snorkel and is absolutely beautiful.

there are lots of dive shops right off the main drag in cozumel. you can do a couple of hours or all day.

Your cruise will offer you a day trip... we did a catamaran, go snorkeling, takes you to a private beach... .. check your excursions :)

Anywhere the boat leaves to go snorkeling in Cozumel will be good. If you are planning to go off a beach, just ask any dive-master, in any one of the dive shops. They'll tell you where to go. Don't touch anything down there...Lots of fire coral, ouch...
