Most of the Spaniards that came to Mexico were light skinned, some were blond and blue eyed.
They interbred with native Mexicans and that is where the mestizaje began.
Although there is a mixture, you will see Mexicans who are dark skinned, light skinned, tan, or even very fair skinned. |

Yes that is true.
As I recall from studying the history of Mexico. Queen Isabella was Castillian and Ferdinand was of Aragon. It was Isabella who loaned Colombus the money for his trips. Therefore in the begining it was only Castillians who could go to the New World and reap the riches.
The previous poster was correct about the long history when the Moors invaded Spain and were finally driven out. But they left their mark in the mixing of the blood.
In general most Spanards are light skin who went to Mexico. Look at the pictures of those who were president up to Benito Juarez. All were light skin. Look at the recent presidents of Mexico, all were / are light skin. |
