Templo Mayor Museum in Mexico City. Worth it?

I'm a history buff, but i'm going on a tour and the itinerary doesn't have this site on one of the places to visit. So, if I want to see it, i have to go on my own. Given the limited time with the tour, that means I have to fly in early, get a hotel for an extra night, etc just to see this. Anyone know if its really worth going to?

Hi there. I live here and well, this museum are the ruins and last remnants of the Aztec empire. They were discovered by accident while workers of the Electric Company were digging doing some works. I don't think they are that great, because you really need to put your imagination to work to imagine the grandeur of the big big aztec pyramids. BUT you should know that this museum is next to the Zocalo, which is the main square of Mexico City, next to the Cathedral (the largest in the western hemisphere) and the National Palace. This really makes this worth the visit, not only to the museum but also to the Zocalo (Plaza de la COnstitucion Square) . To get in you can take the metro (Zocalo station, line 2) or you can take a taxi. The square is located in Downtown, (Centro Historico) which is a listed UNESCO world heritage site. If you need more info , I suggest you to check on www.wikitravel.org , www.frommers.com or you can send me an email and I will gladly help you with questions you may have.

Well, the Templo Mayor Museum is situated a block near the Zocalo, its interesing ck the piramids ruins and if you take a bus from templo Mayor to Antrpology and History Museum it´ll take to you about 10 min. and in front of this museum you`ll see the Chapultepec Castle and the Chapultepec Park

Hey Loco, Yes it is nice and no it is not worth an extra hotel and the cab ride.

and BTW, the largest cities are;
1. Tokyo-Yokohama, Japan - 33,200,000
2. New York, United States - 17,800,000
3. Sao Paulo, Brazil - 17,700,000
4. Seoul-Incheon, South Korea - 17,500,000
5. Mexico City, Mexico - 17,400,000
6. Osaka-Kobe-Kyoto, Japan - 16,425,000
7. Manila, Philippines - 14,750,000

COLAS DE BORREGO DE A $100 USD
If you are a real History fan, it will be awesome, this will take you just a couple of hours, if you are staying in Mexico city for a couple of days, visit the Templo Mayor, while you are in Mexico city's downtown go to La catedral, The correos building, Bellas Artes, Iglesia de Santo Domingo, Templo de las Viscainas, Museo de la inquisicion and MUNAL. but don't leave behind the Museo de Antropologia, make some time to go to Teotihuacan, and Tula, if you are planning to stay a little longer don't worry, Mexico city has over 900 museums and over 1000 interesting landmarks... just follow your intuition and get a map for Mexico city... ride the subway, and the turibus and have a lot of fun!!!

If you need to take a flight just to see it, it doesn't worth it.
I know it.

I would think so. It is quite interesting if you really have the time to stay around and explore. But really if you dont have that much time its not worth it.

I agree with Carlos Mal. The Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia is the best!
