Thinking about Mexico.....?

I'm thinking about retiring to mexico. Is there any information about this. We're looking at the Puerto Vallarta area.

Puerto Vallarta sounds great for retirement, it is quiet and has a lot of places to visit. If you like the beach, it is great.

It gets a little humid in PV during the summer. Why don't you check out the Lake Chapala area. It has the largest English Speaking Ex-Pat community outside the U.S. You can fly into Guadalajara, Jalisco airport & catch a cab for the 35 min ride to Ajijic. You can check out several websites on MX.

Keep looking thru the answers for a guy with the name sparks. He lives in Mexico and seems to have lots of good down to earth answers and suggestions. Some places are a lot more fun and others more quieter and so forth.

Have you heard about San Miguel Allende or Patzcuaro before? There are many retired people from around the world living in these towns and they are beautiful.

I'd get there quick. My wife and I just returned a while back, all we heard is PV is growing rapidly. Food for thought. Hope to retire there too!

Puerto Villarta gets way too hot in the summer. I have lived in San Miguel de Allende for 16 years and have friends who go to P.V. just for the winter then return here in the summer. There is a large, well established expat community here and there are many pluses of living here. It's very safe with hardly any crime. Unlike some parts of Mexico the people here are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. And many Mexicans are bi-lingual. The local administration is very helpful and encouraging of foreigners coming here and there are many foreign owned businesses, restaurants, and some high end businesses are foreign owned and ran. They have a voice in what happens in several local affairs, one American is a principal member ot the current administration - the principal weekly newspaper is in English. Also, the climate is ideal for year round living. It is seasonal with the four seasons, but with no extremes. There is virtually no humidity. High season is Winter but it has become a year round vacational resort popular with visitors from all over the world. The charm of San Miguel is that it is a small colorful town with cobble stoned streets, steeped in history - has many beautiful, ancient churches, colonial buildings dating back centuries. It is set in the mountains at 6500 ft with superb views has a huge picturesque fish stocked lake with amenties for sailing and water skiing. Many people are drawn here because of the many of the colorful festivities and celebrations. You can check out many informative sites by doing a search "San Miguel De Allende"
