Travelling to Mexico city? |
I am thinking of going to Mexico city for 4 days for christmas holidays but i am not sure if there are a lot of things to see there. I am wondering if there is a lot of historical sight seeing to see in mexico city or if it is better to go somewhere else in that region, like Cuba for example. I like going to museums and to historic places when visiting a country but i am not sure if there are only malls, and shops in a big town like Mexico City and nothing else to do apart from shopping.
Thank you |

Oh my gosh, 4 days will NOT be enough to see ALL THERE IS TO SEE in Mex City!!!!!! Come on, who gave you that idea that you can only do shopping in here?? Yeah we do some BIG shopping malls and outlets where you can spend hours shopping, but that's just a plus if this is your main objective. If you want to go sightseeing, you will have PLENTY to see and even 2 weeks wouldn't be enough to see all we have to offer.
First off, we have a fabulous archeological site with impressive pyramids called Teotihuacan, located only 1 hour away (NE) from Mex city. This is a must see. We also have a beautiful historical downtown, with lots of colonial buildings, many museums, our Cathedral, Government palace with impressive murals, and underground ruins with a nice museum attached called Templo Mayor. Our Fine Arts palace is also something you have to see. There's an area called Chapultepec where we have a Castle where emperor Maximilian and some of our former presidents used to live, very well preserved and with furniture and items from the past centuries. There are also Modern art and an Anthropology museum in this same area. Nightlife??? LOTS. Handcraft shopping, we also have bunches of that. Many good restaurants to taste our GENUINE typical food (no burritos or fajitas or thta kind of crap). We also have a small neighborhood called COYOACAN which is very popular among tourists, where you can see some nice buildings/houses, a nice church in the main square, cobblestoned streets and where you can buy handcrafts and mexican food as well. We also have a place called Xochimilco where we have water canals where you can sail on some typical wooden boats decorated with flowers and it's a lot of fun. The weather is quite mild even during the winter so this will also allow you to enjoy your stay even better.
That's just what I can think of now...... as you may see, too many things to cover in just 4 days! Hope you decide to come and that you enjoy your stay. You won't be sorry. |

Before I went to Europe, I bought a Europe travel book and a seperate travel book for each individual country that I went to. You should do the same. They really do have tons of useful information in them. |

I'm here just to support LPROD:
Mexico city have MANY things to do and to see; besides shopping. And the best time to go there is christhmass and Holy Week, since the streets are not to crowded. |

This store is usually loaded with crafts: papier-mâché figurines, textiles, earthenware, colorful candelabras, hand-carved wooden masks, straw goods, beads, bangles, and glass. The Fonda Nacional para el Fomento de las Artes (FONART), a government organization that helps village craftspeople, operates the store. It's open daily from 10am to 7pm. |
