US dollars or Mexican Pesos?

Going to Mexico on holiday is the US dollar accepted. If so is it better to take cash in dollars or pesos

It's much easier if you use pesos. You tend to get a poor exchange rate if you use dollars. You can change some money at the airport or money exchange or bank. If you bring your ATM card, you can draw money out of your bank account. Most banks accept cards from the larger banks around the world.

Don't forget, your balance will be in pesos, not dollars. One of my friends told me it looks like you're "really rich!", because the balance will seem to be about ten times higher.

In any country I think you show respect by using their currency

flightpillow
Pesos, and take small US for tips. If you pay in US you will get ripped off when you receive your change.

Some places take the US dollar, but since you are visiting another country don't you think it would be more respectful to acknowledge that Mexico has it's own national currency and therefore take pesos????

if your only crossing the border to tj you can use us dollars but if your going to Mexico city its better to change your dollars at the money exchange there in thew airport instead of the out side booths you'll get more at the airport .

darin2z
Use an ATM machine there to get the Pesos, should you need them. You'll get the best exchange rate and pay the least fees. Only take what you need as exchanging them back into U.S. Dollars will cost you.

I've never needed Pesos in Cozumel or Cancun. I don't know about Mexico City.

Erm no you have to have pesos to consume things in Mexico well I think if you go to any state near the US then they may accept US dollars but if you go to Mexico city you would need pesos because they would not accept US dollars, I know this because Im from there so you are getting proffesional advice...

US dollars are accepted. However, when you get change back you'll get it back in pesos and the pesos aren't accepted in the US. So.....make sure you spend all your pesos before you spend more US dollars.

Happy travels!

US money is accepted. maybe you should just take some of both so that you are on the safe side. i just went to mexico this past summer and pretty much everywhere "touristy" the take the US dollar but make sure you bring pesos just in case you go somewhere where they don't

I would get pesos as the dollar is only accepted in very touristy areas like Cancun.
