Is this a serious question? I lived in Mexico for 10 years and (a) you can shower just fine; (b) there are no bugs in the food; (c) being Mexico, yeah, there's a lot of Mexican food, but in cities you can find international restaurants, and (d) the sheets, soap and "stuff" you use in Mexico will be just as good as anything you have in your house.
You'll also meet some of the most gracious people in the world, so you might want to spruce up your manners some. |

Well, most of these people's answers are wrong. You will be fine in Mexico. I would suggest bottled water to drink unless you are in Puerto Vallarta which has purified water city-wide.
Food is fine. Eating from street vendors is no problema. Its great and cheap. There are no bugs in the food. The hotels are clean unless you are paying $9 per night, then you are taking a chance.
You don't have to take anything with you except your passport and personal items (clothing etc).
Take an debit card or credit card to withdraw money from ATMs or buy your pesos before you leave. That is what I do.
I have never had a problem in Mexico with the food and the sanitation. I have made multiple trips there and I am moving there in a couple of years. You will love it.
By the way..I would suggest Puerto Vallarta if you have not picked out a place yet. |

are you being serious?? i hope not, but i'll answer these anyways. the water is fine. don't gulp it up in the shower, but just to shower, sure it's fine. don't bring your own food. mexicans have to eat don't they? they are people right? if it doesn't make them sick, it won't make you sick. i lived there for over 1.5 yrs and i was NEVER sick from the food. no, they don't have bugs in the food. mexicans don't like bugs in their food anymore than we do. they don't exactly have the same health codes we do....but anywhere a tourist is going to go, especially one that's asking the questions you are asking...it's going to be totally fine. trust me. don't bring your own sheets. mexicans use cotton sheets just like we do, and they have washing machines just like we do. there are plenty of nice hotels, as there are plenty of rich mexicans who want to go to them. the soaps are the same brands they have in the US, so don't worry about that either. and mexico has a wide variety of foods...italian, chinese, sushi, pizza, american fast foods like burger king, mcdonalds, churches, etc... |

it will all depend on WHAT part of mexico you are going to?
a resort area= all ok.....like cancun (really fab. place....went 4 x's)
acapulco + puerto vallerta....really nice ..
DO NOT DRINK the water anywhere UNLESS it is bottled.....check the labels.
do NOT eat fresh food or veggies from street vendors...thats where the bugs comein.
most good restaraunts are ok.
i never got sick but my husband did. i was told, many years agao..that to avoid "MONTEZUMAS revenge."-to eat 1 flour or corn tortilla in the morning. it absorbs all greases etc.......and i guess it worked. i have been to mexico 8 x's.....love it..never got sick.
the beer is a killer tho...i do not drink it..lots get sick from it cause the water is not distilled that use to brew it there.
when you exchange your money go to the local bank...NOT the stores.....you will get a much better rate.
since you are going in the summer, it will be HOT.....take plenty of sunscreen cause it is NOT cheap there.
bargain with the taxi drivers BEFORE you go anywhere.....there are lots of rip offs.
best tip: check with the front desk of your hotel and ask all your questions...they will direct you the best way.
HASTA LUEGO........divierto mucho...
have a safe trip and lots of fun!!!!!! |

The other answers are quite accurate and it's true that hygene in Mexico is not that good.
However, if you stay at internationally recognised hotels ( such as those in the directory below ) and good restaurants with a reputationyou should be OK. Otherwise, be cautious and seek medical assistance before you go to head off any problems while you are away.
Things like soap and sheets you can but cheaply, locally
Here's some websites which might assist your trip - it's a great place. All the best with your planning. |

As far as showering goes, the water will do just fine and most hotels/motels provide soap. I don't think its necessary to bring sheets either, just like any other hotel/motel. I agree with the others if you want to play it safe, stay away from the street vendors (but the food is soooo goood!!!!) Don't worry about the food, you have about the same chance of getting sick in Mexico. No need to bring bottled water, they sell it everywhere and it is reliable. Mexico is a beautiful country full of so much culture and the people are so pleasant and accomodating! Don't hestitate to travel there and have a wonderful time!!! You won't be disappointed!! |

Mexico is a big country. where exactly are you going? If it is a big tourist town like Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta, there are lots of good restaurants. If you want to be safe, stay away from the street vendors. Bring hand sanitizer and use everytime before you eat. You can bring your own water to play it safe. You should be fine showering with the water. Just dont drink it. Brush your teeth with bottled water too. |

In my experience, if you stick to coastal cities, you are good to go. The more inland you go the more you need to worry about stuff like water and bugs. My wife and I are going in Apri,l(Acapulco),for the 3rd time. Water in hotels is drinkable due to filtration systems, showering is definetley not an issue, and the food is awesome! Most hotels serve a variety of mexican dishes and good old Burges and hot dogs. Last time we went we actually ordered Dominoes Pizza. Small towns are a different story all together, But still lots of fun! Get down there and enjoy yourself! |
