I was just in San Jose del Cabo last week and I had excellant service through with AT&T. I paid the $5 for Mexico service and cancelled it when I got home. I had better service there than I do at home at times. Pay the $5, it's worth every penny! |

Dont count on it...........Phone card before you leave or in Mexico is best option OR I do voice over IP at the many internet cafes. I can call home for an hour for 8 pesos - 80 cents !
International call from the pay phones are about 30 cents a minute back to US. They are everywhere and all international codes are stamped on the pay phone shelter. |

NO!
You will be charged ridiculously high if you use your cell phone past so many miles from the MX-US border.
Don't leave without calling your cell phone provider.
My husband went to Guadalajara a few months ago and we would communicate by texting... he called his provider and asked for international texting. I believe it was 45 cents per text.
If you have the option to buy a cell phone card, then go ahead and buy it. Second option is to call your cell carrier and get Mexico (International) added to your plan for the days you will be there... but it will still be expensive.
By the way congrats! |

I have been to Cabo over a dozen times. So far no luck getting service. When I have asked Sprint they try to sell or rent you a phone that has international service. |

From a Cabo site:
We have local cellular service. Some (very few) cellular services will allow you to roam in Mexico. Most cell phones will work, but they must be reprogrammed by the local service provider (Baja Celular or Telcel).
Or you could rent a phone for a week:
BAJA TECH does offer cell phone rentals while you are in town, telephone 011-52 (624) 143-4240. |

Hola. I have to phone my cell phone provider before I go and tell them to switch me to international calling. They do this and I have no problems using my phone in Cabo. The rates are pretty expensive unfortunately...so if you don't need your cell, I would leave it at home and buy phone cards and use the pay phones at the resort instead.
I personally take my cell phone because people need to reach me at my #, I like the convenience of having my own phone with me, and I drive alot and find the local cell phone providers not as reliable. So I'm willing to pay more for that. |

You will have to check with your cell providers - you have a spare arm and a leg? - for roaming service in Cabo.
You can get phone cards at home or in Cabo wabo. |

Check Verizon's website or give them a call. I have AT &T and each minute while I was in Cabo last week was $0.99, text $0.50 for sending, free receiving. They did have an international plan but that was $4.99. |

No problem at all getting perfect cell service in Cabo - and you can get it for cheap $$. Rent a Cabo phone from Mexitel Cellular and your calls to the US cost only $1 per call (not per minute), your incoming calls are FREE, and they send it to your home in the US before you leave so you have a working phone the second you touch down in Mexico. |
