We are taking a trip to Cabo San Lucas. We have a two year old that needs to be in a car seat.?

Good question. The laws in Cabo are different. I'm trying to recall the last time I saw a child in a carseat! Seatbelt fines have just started to be enforced. I would call the car rental company ahead of time (most have internet websites) and check to see if they offer car seats. If not, you will have to drag one on through the checked luggage.

Actually, the laws in Mexico are about the same as everywhere, the problem is, they are not enforced as they should, or enforced only to take advantage of some people (unfortunately mostly tourist).
But even if nobody stops you, for your own safety, use the seat belt and car seats for tooters.
All car rental companies, have car seats for rent in different sizes, but is about $5 USD extra a day.
If you already have one, I will take it with me if possible, because you are familiar with it, and is as clean as you want. You never know the history of a rented one.

I don't know a lot about renting cars somewhere else, but regardless, he is safer in a car seat on the airplane. Just make sure your car seat is FAA approved (should say so on a label on the seat and in the manual) so they don't give you any trouble. Not only can it help keep a toddler tame during a flight, but also keeps them safe during rough turbulence.

If you want to use a car seat while you are in Mexico you should take it with you. Car seats are not a requirement and are not provided with rental cars.

Personally, I wouldn't rent a car. Most of the places you want to go in Cabo are in walking distance or you can be taken there by shuttle. I would bring the car seat for the flight and the shuttle trips or just use the seatbelts in the shuttle if you don't want to carry the car seat around with you.

I have been to Cabo twice from Sacramento. The first time my son was 5 months old and we brought his infant car seat and we used the shuttle van to take us to the hotel. The second time he was 18 months and we just used the seat belts providied in the shuttle. I would NOT rent a car or drive in Mexico. The laws are vey diffrent there. If you are stopped for a traffic violations you have to pay off or bribe the cops at the site and if you do they might take you to Mexican jail. If you don't bribe them, they may take you to jail. Its best it just use the shuttles provided by the hotels and take cabs or walk.
