Here in Mexico they are palm covered sunshades much like an umbrella. Palm fronds are also used as roofing materials for larger open air outdoor buildings.

here in the philippines, when you say palapa it is a leaves of a coconut tree.

While "Palapa" is the most used term people often refer to them as a palapa umbrella, thatch umbrella, palapa hut, palapa kit, grass hut, grass tiki hut, outdoor shade structure, tropical umbrella, tropical thatch umbrella, patio table umbrella, african reed umbrella, cabana and outdoor table umbrella.

palapa (n.) An open-sided dwelling with a thatched roof made of dried palm leaves.
palapa (n.) A structure, such as a bar or restaurant in a tropical resort, that is open-sided and thatched with palm leaves.


I THINK PALAPAS A GREAT!! I HAVE ONE IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AND I LOVE TO HANG MY HAMACA AND SLEEP THERE WHEN IT IN NICE AND BREEZY.!!!
