What's a good value hotel in Cancun / Playa del Carmen in October?

I prefer Playa over Cancun as well, there are several great places to stay in Playa.

All inclusives- Try either the Riu's or the Iberostars in Playacar. I believe the two Iberostars are the Quetzal and the Tucan. All of the PDC Riu's are in Playacar. Check out tripadvisor.com to look at the hotels.

Non all inclusives- I actually stay at the Xaman-Ha condos, everytime I go to PDC. They are on the Beach all of them overlookk the water and they are in the best location in Playa.(3min. walk to 5Th, located next door to the Playacar Palace) Normally, not very crowded and fairly quiet. They all have full kitchens and some even have washer/dryer, pick one that has been remodeled recently. (Granite kitchen counter tops will let you know) You can even check them out on yahoo maps satelite map. Type in Playa Del Carmen find the ferry docks on the southern end of Playa and then look just south on the beach for the second large pool south of the ferry. Check out xhcondos.com, you can check out individual condos and they have a live webcam of both the beach and the pool area.

The tours can be taken from Playa just as well as Cancun, in fact most of the tours are closer to Playa. Xcaret is only a 5min. taxi ride away from Playa so don't take a tour to Xcaret, just take a taxi and buy your tickets at the gate. The all-inclusive ticket is a good deal the buffet at Xcaret is very good. Xel-Ha/ Tulum ruins tour is good it's aboout 35min. away from Playa. Chichen-Itza tour is an all day tour, it is about 2 hours away from the coast. It can be taken from Playa as well. Cozumel is directly across from Playa of course. Playatrips.com is a good source of information for the tours. If you need transportation from the airport I highly recommend Tello! Playatransfers.com.

if you want to take a good rest , I recomend you Riviera Maya but if you like party, discotec and more, Cancun is perfect.

Depending on what you want to do. I recomend that you check the weather in the mid atlantic and caribbean for storms before getting here,otherwise the weather can be really nice,not as hot as in the summer months,and there is always things to do, If you are planning to come this way and are looking for good deals, you can e-mail me (I live in the quiet village of Puerto Morelos,15 min. soutth of Cancun airport) at mireysol_2000@yahoo,com. and my name is francisco.
By the way Playa del Carmen is now as busy or more as Cancun 20 years ago.

I cant' help you, I will but I dont know this country. But many canadian go to CANCUN. Probably Playa del carmen feels very quiet. I think you're a little depressive because you want solitude and you are a little tired. If you need some help for health, i am the good guy about this category (quebec)
