If you are referring to Mexico City - it is a very sophisticated, modern crowded metropolis. It is the largest city in the world, with over 20,000,000 residents. It is built on a plateau in the mountains, so the weather is mild year-round, but the smog gets trapped in by the inversion layer ... thus, it is one of the most polluted, smoggy cities in the world.
The crime rate is high, but not out of line with other cities it's size ... say New York (per capita crime rate would be similar).
Mexico City has very distinct neighborhoods, known as "colonias" with the more famous ones being "Polanco" and "La Zona Rosa".

Polanco is a high-end residential neighborhood, while "La Zona Rosa" is a hip, happening tourist area with hotels, night clubs and lots of shopping.

I, personally, love Mexico City, and try to get there at least once a year ... although that can be difficult. I still have good friends there.

Do you mean Mexico Citty, i assume.

Mexico citty is a big citty, is maybe the larger citty in the world. It's a dificult citty to live in, but i think it's a great citty to visit, since there are lots of places to visit and to enjoy.

You can find almost whatever you want, there are all kind of museums, theathers, movies, nigth clubs, etc. You migth want to visit the historic center of the citty, wich is full of beautiful colonial buildings, but you have to be careful since is full of people and kind of insecure, but there is no problem if you don't carry much money and try not to be alone or in lonely places.

The public transportation is bad, but can use cabs, or even the subway, again, you have to be careful while using those.

I'll send you a map i found, i hope it's useful for you, and you come down here and visit this great city.

Sorry for those who didn't get it... In extension (km2) is the biggest city in the world, not in population. We're like 25 million persons living in the same city, where some cities like Beijing or New Delhi have more citizens in a smaller area...

As they've told you, Mexico is a city rich in its diversity! You'll find all type of persons, also you can find from people really rich to people really poor... the same happens in the different areas, where you can find an enourmous house in Pedregal or Bosques and then small cardboard homes... but if come prepared you don't have to see that...

As every city or almost every city in the world i recommend youo not to walk in the night in the street, don't take public cabs (you can get some radio taxis or stablished taxis)... be aware of your wallet, everything... but you'll fin that is not as insecure as they say...

The people from Mexico City, "chilangos", are really helpful and love to have tourists.. You'll find amazing museums, archeological places, good food.... I can tell u I've lived many places around and I definetely will stay here forever =)

It's beautiful, hot and humid. Mexico is a third world country. So sadly, you find a lot of poverty and people begging for money or trying to sell their goods to tourists. It's awful when you see young children begging. So I usually overpay for items rather than bargain because I know they could use the money. The people are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy your stay! I've visited Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. The water is great.
