What all is required to cross into MEXICO to take toys to the needy children?

My church wants to donate toys to the children in Mexico. We are talking about 200-300 toys. And at least 10 member are going. What do I need to cross. Besides the permit and our passports and so on. What else do we need? Do we have to pay taxes? Are only certain products allowed? PLEASE HELP!!!
Additional Details
Ok, let me add some details. I understand we have children in the US that could use that help. That's one of the first things I commented to our pastors daughter. But I thought about that and we have a goverment that helps our children. We have a chance here to prosper. BUT, in MEXICO, there is NO goverment, NO medicare, NO social security, NO food stamps, ETC. Ok, now for those who ask, "Why take toys?" I never said that that was all we were ever going to take. This is our first year of church and we plan on doing many other things. Such as Thanksgiving dinners for all the home less here in the US and Mexico. We are all spanish speakers, so translation is no problem. I have heard about the poverty there. How it breaks peoples hearts. The reason we want to take toys is cause for many children there, there is no such thing as CHRISTMAS. We are going to do a canned food drive as well. I look foward to doing something so rewarding...To bring a smile to the childrens face.

I've been to Mexico, Nuevo Laredo and I don't care what that guy says. Toys would be wonderful. It gives them happiness however temporary it may be. Be prepared though to be heart broken when you leave. I saw a little girl on a street corner about 5 years old t-shirt on and no undies, and a pimp standing behind her. All you need is your required paperwork that allows you into the us. It wouldn't hurt if you had people donate canned goods to go along with the toys. I love this cause and God bless you and the people that are going to give some hopeless kids something to smile about.

Blackjack is right. I know you mean well but if you have never been there and seen the poverty, it will break your heart.... Blankets, jackets, food and pesos is what they need.

I'm assuming that your church is in the United States and that you most likely have some connection either through a denomination or already support legitimate missions-oriented or social organizations.

What is MOST helpful is to work hand-in-hand with people already on the ground in the area to which you are going. There are many FINE existing organizations which will not only be able to assist you with rules and regulations, but also help you to understand what you are seeing -- and there will be MUCH grinding poverty and sites unusual for US eyes.

It is helpful to have as many Spanish-speakers with you as possible, although you must also understand that there are many people groups in Mexico who DON'T speak Spanish, but use other indigenous languages as their first or primary language.

Learning about the area to which you are going will also be helpful. Most missions and social service organizations will be able to provide you with that sort of information. They will also be able to help you to stay safe physically.

I've listed a few organizations below. These are just starting places, but may help you as you plan your trip further:

seriously it doesnt help donating toys to children; they need food, not toys. i dont know why this crap goes on in the whole world, not only usa.

I would donate if i were millionaire. Donating only $100 won't work.
But i do think that donating food would be so much better.

I think that the best way to do it is contacting a Mexican donation association.

This is the data of Sólo por Ayudar (Only for Helping) a well prestigiated association in Mexico.

ph: (52) 55 5202 1051/54
fax: (52) 55 5202 8337
E-mail: soloporayudar1@prodigy.net.mx

Or you can contact the Mexican cosulate in your city for further information.

Maybe I don't get it....... but aren't there needy childrens in the United States also.

I don't think there is any restrictions, make sure you keep your passports safe, not sure what permit you need to go to mexico. I think an american passport and dollars are quite enough.

Well whatever it is be careful since you're leaving the land of the free and going in a foreign country.

I am going to Peurto Vallarta in November and planning on bringing some kids shoes, baby blankets, toys, toothbrushes, etc, and food. I was told that if they question you, tell them they are for the children. Most of the guards have kids and would be able to appreciate this gesture. But make sure you have at least one person that can translate, in case of any problems.

There are restrictions when bringing in that many of one type of thing. Three things could happen

1. They'll be confiscated
2. You'll pay duty
3. Absolutely nothing

WELL I AM GLAD YOU ARE DOING IT. I ALLWAYS RECOMEND YOU DO IT IN A ORPHANAGE AND IF YOU DO, THEY CAN GIVE YOU A LETTER THAT THE BORDER WILL ACCEPT.

THE GUYS WILL WANT SOME CASH ON THE SIDE, GIVE THEM 20 DLLS AND YOUR VERY WELL ON YOUR WAY. IF YOU NEED HELP IN CHOOSING A ORPHANGE, I PERSONALLY KNOW 2 THAT WOULD JUST BE BLESSED TO HAVE IT
1 ORPHANGE IN TIJUANA MEXICO REACHES OUT TO IT'S COMMUNITY AS WELL AND GIVES A MEAL A DAY TO THOSE WHO OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE NONE.

GOD BLESS AS YOU DECIDE TO DO SO. IN THE ORPHANAGE WITH THE LETTER, NOT 1 PENNY WILL BE SPENT. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT PER PERSON IN THE CAR TO 150 DLLS. WITH THE LETTER OF THE ORPHANAGE, NOT 1 CENT FOR THAT, BUT DUE TO THE CORUPTION, GIVE THEM 20DLLS. GODS WORD AND BLESS THEM.

Actually, US passports are not required to enter Mexico. You do however need some form of photo identification, like a driver's license.

I went to Mexico last year for work and will be going again in December. I liked visiting there and look forward to my upcoming trip.

Good luck.

I'm confused. If your church is doing this, then they would have all the specifics and paperwork necessary to come across the border. Check with them. I know most churches do what is called the shoebox gift, which is to pack a bunch of stuff into a shoebox and then wrap it. This works the best.
Please don't donate toys. Most of the children need clothes, food, toilitries, school supplies. That sort of thing. I hate it when people show up at our hogars with a bunch of candy and toys when we haven't fed them anything but stale corn tortillas for a week straight!

Seeker?
All that is required to enter or exit Mexico is a valid I.D, Driver License, or Passport.
Donating toys would be wonderful, you could drive or carry them across the border.

I've been going to Mexico for about 8 years now, all u need is your passport and when crossing the brigde, you get a traveler's permit, that u have to fill out and get stamped oh, and pay. There are no restrictions on toys. The only restictions are fire arms, liquor, oh and drugs. I go to San Miguel de Allende in Nov. Where in Mexico are u going???? ADD DETAILS!!!
