it's slightly more expensive. although changing dollars to pesos, and then changing gallons to litres, and then changing miles to kilometers....yikes, the math is scary. but it works out to be more. and the government owns the gas stations in mexico so you don't have to look around, they are all the same price. and often the price is not posted, because....it really doesn't matter, you have to buy it.
the real cost is the toll roads!!! wow, they can get expensive. some are only 20 or 30 pesos ...and other can be 120-150!! for a car! |

Um, the person above me seems to be having some major issues with his math.
Per this website (as of May 3, 2007) the gas prices seem to be about 2.29 per gallon for magna (their regular unleaded) and 2.81 per gallon for premium.
The other people are correct that Mexico gas stations are govn't run so they should all be consistent. And it seems that Mexico is enjoying cheaper gas than we are here in the States.
Check it out-- |

I was in Cozumel recently and I believe at that point it was about $1.20 (US) a liter, 4 liters to a gallon, so you're looking at about $4.80 a gallon... then again, people don't drive over there as much as here in the states, everything is at close distance, so it goes a little bit further... and as for the toll roads, yeah they do vary from 20-30 pesos, as well as 150-200 pesos, but I believe they are worth it because for one, the conditions of the toll roads are better than any highway here in the states and two, the time it saves you from taking all the isolated, thief infested, horrible roads, it's worth it... |

Its about the same now because of the price increase in the States but I usually get a full tank in Arizona before going south. |

It generally works out to be about 15% more expensive than average US prices. |
