I visited in the summer of 2006 and visited many wonderful places, mainly around the Yucatan Penninsula. I would suggest Tulum, it is very beautiful ! For beaches I would say Akumal, Progreso, and Playa del Carmen. The sites and experiences in Mérida are fantastic !!! They have great restaurants, and good sites to go and see. The Govenor's Palace was interesting. Plus each night something interesting is going on. Either the ballet( highly recommened if playing), or just a festival and dancing in the streets at night. Also they have horse drawn carriages that can carry around the city. Hope these suggestions help you !!

It depends on what kind of environment you are looking for, as well as your age and what do you want to do. One of the top places is Cancun (all the way south in the Yucatan Peninsula). It has almost everything: Great beaches, Archaeological sites, Nightlife, Scuba diving. Surrounding sites are great too: Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Merida, etc. It is also very close to Cuba and you can go by boat.

Now, if you enjoy colonial sites, you may want to consider Guanajuato, Morelia, Puebla, Guadalajara or Mexico City. These last two are Mexico's largest cities, so you can also find lots of great attractions here: Museums, Concerts, Mariachis, Parks, and even night life.

Right at the border with US, Baja California has lots of attractions too. There is hiking , beaches, mountain biking, scuba diving, wine tasting and party. Top places are Ensenada, Rosarito and Tijuana
