1. The air is the worst....
2. Traffic is bad and it seems to have no rules on the road
(anything goes)
3. The law system there is so corrupt (you can't trust the police)
4. It is so dangerous (robbery/murder/kidnapping is very high)
5. Poverty seems to be everywhere
6. Dogs Sh*t every where (so keep an eye on where you walk)
7. Packs of dogs roaming the streets
Mexico City is beautiful and has a lots of great things all so about it...like the people....the culture is rich and food flavorful but the problems there can make it unattractive.....one day I hope for a safe Mexico City.... |

Mexico City is infamous for its air pollution.
Government figures suggest that tens of thousands of people die prematurely because of health problems related to the toxic cocktail of smog that envelops the city for much of the winter period from November to May. |

Air pollution and traffic are the biggies IMO. Mexico City is like any other huge metro area, you have to use caution. I live down there most summers and I have never had a problem, ever. There are certain areas you need to avoid like Tampito and make sure you use telephone taxis.
There is always something to do there and SO much to see. I hope you decide to take a trip there. |

Actually if you find a place in a good area the 2 worst things would be
1:Air Pollution, i live in Mexico (the country) and i've been at Mexico city a few times, maybe its because im from a small town (less than 200000 habs) but the air there makes mi eyes red, and gives me headaches.
2: The Traffic, it's terrible, it can take you as long as 2 hours to drive through idk like 10 or 15 miles. |

Kidnappings are a problem in Mexico City. However, a tourist kidnapping is almost rare. Kidnappings are reserved for rich people who live there.
Other problems not mentioned. Hygiene problems. Not the people. The water. Also, I love food from the street in Mexico. Good rule of thumb, to eat at taco stands look for the one's that have large crowds of local people. This usually means, good and clean food.

You're going to hear a lot about it that may not be true. My husband is from there and I've visited, so if you want to email me, feel free. Smog (air) is pretty bad in certain areas, but it's kind of like L.A if you've ever been. Crime is high in the downtown parts, but I've never had a problem because I go with people from there and know the areas. There are a lot of stray dogs, but they are used to people and don't bother you. |
