What are the Pros and Cons of living in Mexico? |
I'm thinking about moving to Mexico with my fiancee and I want to know how it differs from the US. I am a US citizen who has never even been out of the country and I just want to know what I should look forward to day to day if I lived in Mexico. Possibly thinking about moving to Campeche but not sure. |

Like many countries, Mexico has many regions, many geographical areas, and many climates. You can live in one of the largest cities in the world, or a tiny pueblo of two or three houses. You can live on the beach or hours and hours from the nearest water.
You might want to check out websites, books, and other resources as you discuss this with your fiance. You will want to learn some functional Spanish before you move, even if it is to one of the areas with significant US populations.
It is NOT always cheap to live in Mexico -- it depends on HOW you want to live. If you want something similar to a US lifestyle, you may find that quite expensive and/or impossible to attain in certain locations. Medical care, cell phone or internet access, and potable water will vary from location to location.
Do your homework first... have long discussions... and consult with others who have moved here. The websites listed are just a sample of some of what you can find to help you in this decision. |

YEEZ!! If u are planning to move to Campeche you better start learning some spanish because just a few people living there will speak english. Campeche is a really hot place, lacking many urban services (depends on the area) that you take for granted in the U.S.
People is friendly, food is great, much more cheaper than the states (specially, fruits, veggies, meat, dairy products).
You better get a job first and then move, because it is not easy to find a job (unless you are planning to make a living fishing, or pimpming).
Otherwise, if you go to Mexico city, you get to live in a very large, crowded, polluted, modern, intriging place.
It will be better if you visit a non touristic place if u want to move over (touristic places treat americans specially well, and you wont get the right picture). |

Well try a pretty nice calm city (less violence, robberiesdont ry jungles), Campeche can be a nice option, and if ya add that is a city in da south (near to Quintana Roo, Yucatan; Tabasco...)ya can get a lot of diversity and awsome times...
Life in Mexico is great, if ya get a job in a big company maybe ya can get a real nice payment, and well dont forget if ya speak another laguage it could help a lot...groceries are cheaper, also vegetables, meat and fruits (we have a lot of street markets)...
We are a really nice people, and yes we like a lot people from other culture...the BEST POINT, people gonna treat ya ok, just dont take a position like foreing, we like to be with people whos treats us as same...
Politic, just forget about it dont get involved...
If ya dont have a work with a company yet, try to apply with a english school or lenguage center, now is so demanding to speak english in mexico as a second one... |

Well these is easier access to good medicine and food. The cons are the high crime rates and their shitty water. But Mexican women are very very hot and you better learn Spanish its is very important they're are some Mexicanos and Mexicanas that undertand English but the rest all speak Spanish so you are going to experience a huge language barrier. |

The Pro is a much much lower cost of living. The Con is you get what you pay for. |

My friend moved there. Life is GREAT as long as you have a job, some money. People who have money NEVER leave, it's not good for those who are poverty stricken, but that goes without saying. Those are the people who want to flea for a better life. Mexico City has its dangerous parts but also it's nice parts. You should learn Spanish but many people who are educated can understand English. If you and your husband can get a job there, go for it! |

There are many thousands of US Citizens living in Mexico, for many years. Obviously they have found something that has attracted them. One is the standard of living you can obtain with dollars.... chofers, maids, very good schools for the kids, night life, beautiful housing... The weather is another plus, especially if you come from states with very cold winters. Summers can be hot in the northern states of Mexico. And the proximity and availability of daily flights to almost any large city in the States is also a plus.
Guadalajara (Ajijic, Chapala) and all of the Baja Peninsula have very large American communities.
You should try and live there for a while.... you can always go back if you do not find it adjusts to your lifestyle. |

Pros: Lots of food and fun and nice people.
Cons: Lots of people out on the street begging for money, to many crowded streets.
I found this out when I went to Mexico for Christmas last year. |

Unless you live in or around tourist areas, the cost of living is cheap. Many people do move south of the border and live very well. The big negative is you have no rights. You can be arrested and not charged for a long time, sitting in a jail without rights. I had a cousin who lived near Chapulte for over five years, and was accused of stealing. He was arrested and spent almost a year in jail, without charges.
They lived like kings on about 1200.00 a month income. |

You can find empty towns just south of the border, everyone "came north" |

At this rate you might just be the only one living there by the time you decide to move there. Most would've crossed the border and will be grinning at Uncle Sam. |
