What are the beaches like in Puerto Vallarta?

We want to spend lots of time at the beaches.....is most of the P.V. coastline swim/kid-friendly? We've got two teenagers that want to bask in the sun, I'm hoping that we don't encounter a lot of rocky beaches. We're mostly familiar w/ Hawaiian beaches......any comparables?

you can go to "Mismaloya" it's a beautiful beach, "punta mita", manzanilla, quimixto, yelapa and "las animas" are great beaches there's small criuises that can get you to those beaches (accesible only by boat) for about 40 usd. the "princesa yelapa" cruise is one of the most comercial. Another beautiful beach is "bucerias".

Some of these beaches are acually in Nayarit but they're pretty close to PV.

In Mismaloya and Punta Mita you can go to get into one of the many little restaurants they have by the beach order a drink and stay there the whole day; obviously the sea food there is delicious.

Enjoy your stay

Hawaiian Beaches don't even come close to the beautifulness that the beaches in PV have. As rof rockiness, you have to go to Playa Los Muertos to avoid all the rocks. Have fun!

the beaches are very sandy and have plenty of area to bask in the sun. it is also great for swimming. if the beach you go to first is not what you want, just go farther down coast to find what you want.

Beautiful, but I recommend you go during winter time because the climate is better more sun you should double check that though. The beaches aren't rocky but very plain. You'll like it.

The puerto vallarta beaches are very beautiful. The sand is soft and there are no rocks to hurt your feet. It is very kid friendly! I went on the Royal Carribean cruise and one of the destinations was Puerto Vallarta. It was soo beautiful and very green. :)

We just got back yesterday from PVR. We stayed at the RIU Jalisco which is north in Nuevo Vallarta (10 miles from PVR). Beack was sandy and no rocks. Good for swimming and boogie boarding. However, the sand is kind of dark making the water not clear. Kind of remined me of Galveston, but, kids had a great time. Be careful of sunburns, it put a real damper on the vacation for my kids.
