You do not want to buy appliances in Mexico. They cost MORE in Mexico than in the states. Handcrafted furniture, yes, but appliances , no.

I'm personally not familiar with the rates you must pay to customs for bringing furniture to the US, but it should be perfectly possible.
I agree, don't waste your money buying electronic appliances here. Especially legit DVD's or videogames which can be up to 3 times more expensive than in the USA. There's a reason why so many mexicans like taking weekend shpping trips to Texas.
