After reading some of the other answers, many people are correct saying it is the peso, but it is designated as the "MEXICAN peso". At the moment, the exchange rate with the dollar is 10.905 pesos per dollar. If you are trying to convert currencies, feel free to check out this link and put in the currencies.

Are you planning a trip, or do you just want to know Mexican currency for general information?
It's interesting that "peso" means "weight" in English, and "yen" is Japanese for round" because that is the shape of the coin. We went to Viet Nam recently, but I don't want to speculate as to why their national currency is called the "dong".
I recommend that, if you intend to travel to Mexico, you do some research about that fascinating and beautiful country. Your trip will really be enhanced.
My feeling is that, even though a lot of places take US dollars, you can get a better deal if you pay in pesos.
We live in Asia now, and it has been so long since we have been to Mexico that I really do not have any current information that will help your trip. |
