The official currency is the Mexican Peso, but in most tourist places you might be able to pay with US Dollars, although they may take adavantage at the currency rate.
If you have an American Express, Visa or Mastercard credit card, you can also use at most of the places. |

This is not as easy a question as it would seem. Clearly, Mexico uses Mexican pesos, more correctly New pesos to distinguish from the old ones which were reduced in the 90's at a 1,000 to one ratio.
The problem is, usually in your home country the conversion rate is really bad.
If you come into a major international airport, there will in all reasonable hours be changing houses with fairly good conversion rates. They accept not only cash from most countries, but also travelers checks, though there may be a daily limit, and you may need to provide a valid passport.
In most cities of any size, there will be ATM machines, and you can get up to, oh, say three hundred or four hundred US dollars in pesos a day. My experience has been the fees are usually not unreasonable but I certainly can't guarantee that. You might want to ask your home bank if they believe you can access ATM's in Mexico, though they can also not know. There have been some problems reported with PIN size from some banks.
Some major tourist hotels also change travelers checks or cash, though the conversion rate again may pay for this convenience.
Since YA is geared to quick, one shot answers, I recommend for a detailed answer from people personally knowledgeable about Los Cabos, go to:

Of course, you will want the Mexico thread.
Free registration required. They can be a bit nasty, but nothing like here. Generally, though, they are knowledgeable and helpful. And, this is a common question, so if SEARCH is available, use it first. |

Take dollars. You can change them to pesos at your hotel, or at a "Casa de Cambio." when you get there. We usually don't take a lot of currancy, but we do take our bank card. With our US bank card we can withdraw pesos at an ATM. Keep most of your cash and cards in the hotel vault, and just keep the money you will need for the day on you. |

Since you are staying at a "swanky resort" you should be fine with your American currency. Most places in Cabo accept US funds as readily as pesos. There are currency booths all over the place to exchange your money. Lots of banks too. Lots of ATM's. You can draw funds from your credit cards, debit, from your resort as well. |
