I assume you are talking about documents. It depends on how you travel. If you travel by air, you best get a passport to return to the U.S. If you travel by land or sea, you will not need a passport until 6-1-09. Before then if you don't have a passport, you will need other papers such as a valid driver's license in addition to a birth certificate. There is an approved list available on travel.state.gov. On the left side of this page click on TRAVEL TO CANADA, MEXICO, AND THE CARIBBEAN.

If you are flying, you need a passport.

If driving, you need passport OR government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).

Here's your confirmation:

"Tonalc" gave you the abso;utely correct answer. Read the site he gave you to confirm this. Everyplace in Mexico serves bottled water to guests...hotels, resorts, restaurants. You are not stupid...you are asking for documented , correct info...the right thing to do.

jessn

money and a spanish speaking friend. Trust me on that

You need a passport and by getting a passport you need a home address a valid security card your birth certificate and your ID in order to get a passport to travel to other countries.

Its not a dumb question we all get confused on what we need to travel.

But since its the summer u dont need an passport all you need is a Valid ID and your set to go.

And change your American money to Mexican money when your in the Airport.

Passport, most importantly.

BE WEARY OF TAXI-CABS!
I've heard that often cab drivers are kicked out at gunpoint, and the people who steal the cars then rob passengers whom they pick up. To avoid this, call a cab company and asked for one to be delivered to your location + have driver ask for your name. OR get in a cab that you PHYSICALLY see a passenger get out of--if you see that, it means the cabbie is the legitimate person and the passenger has safely gotten to his/her destination.

HAVE A SAFE TRIP.

Ok here's what you need....

1. Your Passport
2. Someone who speaks spanish is a huge advantage also

That's it....Also most tourist towns take the dollar, so you don't even need to exchange. Although I always do.

Also f#ck all of you who say that only the beach towns are nice and everywhere else is crap. I'm Mexican and can tell you from experience that yes there is poverty in Mexico, but there is poverty everywhere in the world. There are some absolutely beautiful places in Mexico. From Baja Los Cabos, to the Yucatan Jungles. Not to mention Puerto Vallarta is one of the top rated beaches in the world!!!
Most people go to the border towns and assume that all of Mexico is like that. Tijuana, Juarez, and all the other border towns are the worst places in Mexico. Please don't judge from stories and rumors, experience Mexico and You wont be disappointed.

Money.
Um....be sure to go to either Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, or Mexico City, or even Guadalajara. Everywhere else it's ghetto and poor.

No, you don't need a passport, you just need an I.D.

I live in Brownsville, Texas and have gone to Mexico uncountable times. I just went there last week, nothings changed.

Notions are that you need a passport, or a birth certificate, you don't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chris
like 5 dollers and then ur the richest person in mexico!
