Same as the Spanish? Years of tyranny from the states? "Now" starting to become a tourist destination? These people need to start reading a little more.

The food is spicy with chili peppers, tortillas and lots of beans, onions and guacamole. The most typical dish in Mexico City is Mole Poblano, a not so sweet chocolate sauce on chciken breast. The type of food you get in US Restaurants is often not very authentic or more inspired by Northern Mexico.

I lived about 1 year working in Mexico City and can say that people are mostly hard working, well educated (at least in the professional classes) and digging out from decades of economic mismanagement. The public sector is very corrupt but improving. They don't have "siesta" for lunch on work days, but they do take 2 1/4 hours and work until 7 or 8. Entertainment is similar to the US for the younger classes.

I lived in Mexico for 10 years in the '80s and have traveled there extensively otherwise. Mexican culture contains a variety of different cultures, but since you're asking about an overview, it's fascinating. For the most part, I love the food. As with any country, there are foods that I did not like, but overall I'd say it's terrific. What was more important to me was the graciousness of the Mexican people.
