I love Mexico, you have to be aware of your surroundings, like every holiday

=)

I guess they have had bad luck or they have been completely drunk and acting stupid...
Mexico is a very well prepared country for tourism, not for nothing we are the 3rd country in the world with most tourist influx...

I come and go from Mexico often. I have a house here, and many of my friends are Mexican. I go out in the evening and I often just walk home, with my shoulder bag across my chest.
This leaves my arms free. I walk stealthily and look as if I could defend myself. However, I know where I can walk and where not to walk at night. I have had my wallet and money purse stolen while paying for groceries....the maids often steal, but I usually get the stuff back.
Just be careful and only go to good areas, keep away from border towns. Do not wear expensive jewellery. I like it in Mexico very much and I am originally from England, but have lived in the States for years.

I've been there, It depends where your going... Most kids (younger adults) only go places like Tijuana or Mexicali... you don't go to see the beauty and ambiance of it. If you going to vacation do some research... If your going just to drink and party then stick with the basic TJ.... But going there doesn't really qualify as Mexico to everyone.

Most of your friends assaulted? They must have been drunk or just unlucky. I live in Mexico and have never experienced any kind of assault expect from the electric company. Outrageous cost. Lots of tourists and expats here in Baja California who regard Mexico as a great country of friendly people, good food and fabulous Pacific Ocean to relax by. Don't judge a country by the experiences of a few jerks.

i am half mexican and i love it there. it's not bad like some of these people are saying. most of them are just ignorant. it is true though that you should take precautions like in any other country.

=) peace

Hello to Danger
I've traveled to Mexico dozens of times and have Friends and family that travel there regularly, and I've never heard of any one being assaulted,Mexicans are very friendly towards Americans.

I travel to Mexico for one week of every month from February to August. My husband plays baseball there. I am always traveling alone. I have never had any problems. I have always encountered very friendly people who are willing to help. However, it helps if you speak Spanish. Some people will try to take advantage of you as far as overcharging you for things, but you can usually figure it out. When you refuse to pay a high price, they will lower it.

I've only visited major tourist and beach resort areas, and have felt very safe, even walking to the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta after dark. The worst thing that happened to me was agreeing to attend a Mayan Palace Resorts timeshare presentation. See links below for more on this scam that could cost you Thou$and$ of $$. I plan on returning next year to Guadalajara and spending a week tasting their great tequilas and touring the agave fields and tequila production factories.

Never NEVER attend a Mexican Timeshare Presentation:

Just take the precautions suggested on the US Dept of State web site--you'll be fine.

Most of my friends have not - go, but be careful, I suppose. It's supposed to be beautiful.

completely and totally LOST!
ya you have to drink bottled water the whole time.

Jim K
You couldn't pay me enough money to go there.

Mr.Knowitall
3 things:
Don't drink the water
Stay with a group or guide
Stick to the more civilized towns/cities
