This is a term you will run across when in Cancun, quite often. One of my favorite beach towns actually has the word Playa in it, Playa Del Carmen. One of my all time favorite beaches is called Playa Norte, which translates to North Beach. You will find Playa Del Carmen located about 35-40 minutes south of Cancun's Hotel Zone and Playa Norte is on Isla Mujeres (Women Island) located about 20 minutes north of Cancun via fast ferry.
