What doesn't the States and Canada shut the border DOWN going in and out for Mexico?!?!?

There is no value of the products coming from mexico they're no use to america when mexico makes things they are crap so we should shut the border down no matter what We shouldn't be buying anything from the mexicans. How do we know that what we get from mexico isn't contaminated with the swine flu.

And "instead just keep major trades open". But that would still involved tens of thousands of crossings, so there'd be no point in restricting the rest.

The best solution in epidemics is to use a number of solutions: reduce non-essential travel, educate people on how to protect themselves, discourage the formation of hot transmission zones (large gatherings of people), vaccinate people in hot transmission zones that can't be shut down (hospitals, etc).

Well yes it is about money, it's what makes peoples lives secure and functional, here and all over both countries. I am here on the border in El Paso and we have tens of thousands of crossings daily. It has to be, 30k people work in Juarez from here and tens of thousands come over to shop and stimulate our economy. You have 450 thousand workers in manufaturing facilities supplying products to millions of US consumers, this can't be shut down unless the problem is truly catastrophic. 80 or even 800 deaths is not particularly unnerving, consider 36k die annually here in the US alone from Influenza flu and related. This is far from Pandemic the exaggeration the media is launching, I am not saying it isn't a big deal, it could be. However, like another poster already stated, the flu is already here and it will spread... difficult if not impossible to contain.

we have so much trade and movement of people it would mean shutting down life as normal where i live. i live near the border and so many people cross daily to work and shop and go to school, our economy here would be ruined. plus there are already cases in the USA and canada. too late now. europe is shutting down travel to mexico AND the USA

Are you nuts? If I'm not mistaken the only time our borders would be closed would be during time of war. Its not 1918, millions are not dying, we have lots of medicines and great hygiene...not to mention news alerts 24/7... its not a pandemic, (hate that word), its not the Mexican flu. Calm down, wash your hands.

i guess its all about the money..i dont think there making a big deal about it yet because the death rate isnt that that high. obama said that its not that major yet. and also people that are living in mexico arnt all effected and they want to get out of there before they get affected.
