What effects (5) has Mexico made on the United States?

1. cheap labor - Mexican peasants will do the kind of work many US citizens who feel "superior" won't do

2. bilingualism - Most Mexicans who go into the US acquire English and communicate that way, but maintain their customs and add to US culture - not only the cheap labor, but people with degrees who provide the US with their know-how as well

3. drugs - which is terrible, as no one -anywhere- should be using that garbage. However, it started back in the late 30s and early 40s that the Mexican government helped provide the US with morphine for their soldiers during WWII.

4. turkeys - Turkeys were domesticated by the Aztecs.. why the name turkey? Because Spanish conquistadors took it to Europe and Europeans thought it was the guinea fowl that the Turkish had brought into Europe (Guajolote in Spanish, from the nahuatl huaxolotl)

5. chocolate - Not from Hershey, PA, but from Mexico to Honduras. Xocolatl was offered to Hernan Cortes when he was considered the reincarnation of one of the Aztec gods, thus the scientific name of the plant Theobroma which means food for the gods in Greek

Five effects Mexico has made upon the US.

1: Their rigid laws of Colonization and demand that all trade to the American Southwest come from Mexico City caused a thriving market for goods made in the US. This coupled with the US citizens to colonize the Texas area over time gave way to the US expanding to its current borders. This is a basic answer with a lot more detail and you should research it deeper. So number one, Mexico gave opportunity to US to expand its borders.

2. The introduction of foods from Mexico into the US has caused an expansion of the American diet. In the 1970's Katsup was the number one condiment in the US. Now it is salsa. Yes, a lot of Americans of Mexican decent may have changed our course, but it is their heritage that gives us the new flavors and foods.

3. The discorvery of oil in Mexico has given the US a close market for crude oil. One that is not a part of OPEC. A Great Ally and a reliable source of energy.

Since you are asking effects I believe you mean good and bad effects.

4. Mexico's rigid laws concerning business has created a troubled economy. For anyone including Mexican's to do business in Mexico, legally it is a bureaucratic nightmare. Everything has to be official. You can't buy Quicken to do your own taxes, they must be done by an accountant.

The government and business elite still live with the mentality of all for the rich and powerful, nothing for the dirty uneducated masses. I have seen that attitude in the streets of Mexico City. I saw it in the last presidential election.

With laws and regulations that make business very difficult it leads to people seeking a better way of life. Thus the mass migration of peoples out of Mexico and into the US.

So now the question becomes is this a good effect of a bad effect. In my opinion the effects are both good and bad for both Mexico and the US. Why would Mexico want its hardest workers to leave their country and go work in the US and help build up the US'S economy and intfrastructure while leaving Mexico's stagnent.

The millions of Mexicans who have illegally come into the US have helped push wages down in certain industries. This is good for consumers, but bad for workers.

If Mexico's economy was so great, why do people FLEE to the USA?

5. Mexico is the superhighway of drugs entering the USA. Thanks to the porous border between the US and Mexico drugs flow freely into the US. Thus the millions of consumers can get their drugs with ease. This casues riches for the trafficers and a continuous supply for customers.

There you go. 5 effects. Some intermingled between US and Mexico. Some effects are good, some are bad. It all depends upon how you look at things. If you use drugs then #5 is a good thing. If you are rich and live in Mexico then #4 is a good thing.

After the Katrina disaster the Mexico Navy came to Mississippi to help. For this I am forever grateful.

1. Most Americans, whether they know it or not, pay lower prices for things like meat and produce because of Mexican (and other) workers.

2. Mexican food is one of the most popular everywhere in the States. It is great. Chile, salsa, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, empanadas .............

3. Mexico is one of the most important trading partners the US has.

4. Mexico provides many of the most popular beach vacation destinations for Americans, at a price that average people can afford.

5. Anthony Quinn, Linda Ronstadt's Canciones de Mi Padre CD, and Selma Hayek, among others.
