What food can I take with me to Acapulco? |
We are from Arizona and are going to be vacationing in Acapulco. The time-share we are staying at has a kitchen so we wanted to take food with us. Mostly meats and condiments. I know that I can not take fruits and veggies but does anyone know about the rest.
Also, if you know of a website that has this listed let me know so I can print it out if I get hassled in customs.
Thanks!! |

Do not bring to Mexico any kind of fruits, meat, poultry, ham or prepared dishes, guns and drugs. After you pass the custom you'll be stopped at a last checkpoint to verify your custom declaration and baggage revision

Also ... a list that you might find somewhere is not going to help you with customs officials. I'd suggest not challenging them |

I just moved from acapulco to cancun, i lived there for almost a year. spare you the hastle of carrying down all that food, they have grocery stores near by. you might recall the name of one, WAL-MART SUPER CENTER. They have everything you need there and almost all of your american brands that you are use to back home. |

The list of allowed things does not mention food:

I don't think you'd have trouble with anything that is sealed (e.g., condiments). I don't know about the meat. Customs overall tend not to like fresh stuff being brought into a country.
Do you want to bring something very specific/special, something precooked to avoid cooking in Acapulco, or are you afraid you won't find what you want/need?
If you are concerned about the last reason, keep in mind Acapulco is a big city, and you should not have much trouble going to a supermarket and getting what you need for cooking. |

Don't take anything, you can find anything you want there. |

Why do you want to take food with you? There are supermarkets like the US. . As for fruits and vegetables they are in abundance and less expensive than in the US. |

Dont take any food into mexico, you will save yourself the hazzle of the customs inspections and declarations. If you are staying at the Mayan Palace in Acapulco, there is an incredible new Super Walmart, less than 5 minutes away from the hotel, and you will find everything you need at wal-mart prices, this will ensure the freshness of your foods and you will have the opportunity to plan your meals and snacks for the week accordingly. Even if you are not staying at the Mayan Palace, there are several wonderful grocery stores at very good prices. The only thing I would recommend you take with you are your medications, stomach medications (imodium, peptobismol, etc) just in case! And plenty of sunscreen.
Have fun! |

Honestly, its more of a hassle to drag all that stuff with you then to buy it in Mexico. There are many small markets where you can purchase fruit, veggies and meat products that are safe if properly handled. Most larger cities have Sam's, Walmarts or the Commercial Mexicana that are very sanitary. That said, my wife has a thing about bringing American coffee along with her every year and she hasn't had any problems with that but beyond that I can't give you a definite answer. Have a fun time in Acapulco!!! If you do get a bug, go to a pharmacy and ask for Kaomycin, works great or Lomotil... |

Do you know that you can purchase just about anything in Mexico food wise? Most have big grocery chains now and it will be cheaper as well. I usually bring stuff like my favorite items that I can't get down there - like a particular brand. Meat is fine - I bring a turkey and salmon and other meats frozen, condiments are fine - sealed of course. You are right about fruits and veg and other plant items. |
