What is the average living expenses for a average person in mexico.? |
Apart from the need to learn spanish, I would like to know what is the average living expenses for someone living in a small town in mexico and the food expenses as well.
Does Mexico have a library in every town or only the big cities. I am an American considering enduring significant hardship if my country elects John Mccain and commits even more crimes in our collective name.
I could live without Computers, TV, or even sanitation, but I in good conscience cannot live without books. |

Firstly,
I don't anticipate that McCain would get elected, secondly, if you have money Mexico is a fine choice- if not move to Canada where they need workers out in Alberta! I live in Canada, but I love Mexico and maybe one day myself will move there, but when I am older.
Cost of living all depends on where you would like to live in Mexico, for instance Merida in the Yucatan is much cheaper then Mexico City in DF (though in Mex City you could live very cheap as well)
Say for an apartment in a place like Merida, yucatan which is a city of 1000000, your rent can be around $200-500 for a decent place. You can get less then $100 US if you stay in someones house as renting a room but it's not something I am into. Food is very cheap in Mexico if you enjoy eating local food, if you are into something exotic like Lebanese or Japanese food, good fish it will be pricy.
Internet is very cheap in Mexico- majority of Internet cafes are not more then $1 US per hour, some less around 50 cents per hour. Many Mexican cities have libraries. Cable is included in most apartments if it is furnished, as well as tv and internet these days. |

Ah, so you are an American who will only wants to live in his country if EVERY elected office goes to the person YOU want elected. Even if the House and Senate are both controlled by one party, if the candidate of the other party wins the presidency , you want to leave. Wait til you find out what politics in Mexico are like! And...how the people are treated by the government in Mexico! If you want to run away from the U.S., you might want to learn more about the politics and govt of the place you want to go to first. You cannot legally reside in Mexico without an FM3 visa which requires that you have PROVABLE, documented income from outside Mexico of at least 1500 usd a month. This must be renewed yearly with proof of income. A single person can live on $1000 to $1500 a month comfortably in Mexico. Small towns do not have libraries...even in large cities the public libraries are often quite small...and , of course, all in Spanish. Good thing only a few people threaten to leave the country if their candidate does not win! And, have you noticed , they are always liberals...people who supposedly espouse tolerance and freedom of choice. |

It depends where you go. If you can´t live without books it is probable you will not find many books in English, and by your question I guess you don´t read Spanish very well.
If you go to the capital of the state you will probably find a bookstore, libraries I wouldn´t bet it.
Also, what kind of living are you wanting? A small town is not as a small town in the U.S., you would probably end up living in a touristy town where you will be happy (San Miguel de Allende, San Cristobal, Palenque, etc). You will find cybercafés (computers) and amazon.com.
But if McCain gets elected he will probably invade Mexico and the country will be no more. |

dont be such a drama queen.
come to mexico to enjoy the country.
also, McCain's party's ideology has a great presence in Mexico. at the moment liberals are in power, but conservatives have ruled for decades here. so if they take over Again you might be considering going to some other country. |

Hi, I recommend you the city of Guanajuato, it's a great city where many students from the world come every year to take spanish classes. Also here is an important University (the UG) and some Languages' schools. U can find a library and the CAADIC (one place with books, music, movies et cetera in more than 8 languages and activities to practice them)
Boarding is inexpensive, u pay 4 one room (sharing kitchen and may be bathroom, and other spaces in the house) around 70 usd. If u don't want share u pay around 120 usd per month. Not bad!
Food is cheap, go to the supermarket and will be around 25 usd with a lot of stuff. If u prefere go to small restaurants is 4 usd each one.
With others will be may be not more than 700 usd and have a comfortable life. |

San Miguel de Allende is a smaller city with around 80,000 people. In has the second largest bilingual library in Mexico. The l;arge ex-pat population is very active in the library association which has placed libraries in many villages in the area and sponsors scholarships.
Real estate and rent is more expensive in SMA than most places. But if you look around, you can find some reasonable places.. |

Well Charlie notwithstanding, you would have a lot of company if you moved to Mexico. I live near Lake Chapala and can honestly say I have not seen one single McCain bumper sticker on a car down here, but plenty of Obama stickers.
He is correct, you need documented income of about $1200 a month to get a long term resident Visa FM3. Several towns have libraries with large English language sections, among them Oaxaca, Aijiji near Lake Chapala and San Miguel de Allende. We also have high speed Internet and Cable or Satellite TV available. You can live simply but comfortably on that $1200.
And on the incredibly long shot that the GOP manages to hack enough voting machines to elect McCain, I will be really glad I am living in Mexico. |
