Catalonia Riveria Maya - Just got back from an all inclusive week through Apple Vacations. The place is great for families. My boys are 10 & 13 and both had an awesome time. There is a coral reef just off the private beach, so you can snorkel each day, or you can hang out in one of the pools. It is also within walking distance of a marina where they were able to swim with dolphins. The food was good and the service was excellant. My 10 yr old loved the "snack" shop that was open all day by the pool. Also an ice cream place open each night.

Okay we stayed at the Moon Palace resort (the nizuc side) and it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is about 5 min from actual cancun but the hotel is GREAT!! Food is included and all of the resteraunts in the hotel are AMAZING!! There is so much entertainment at this hotel also. Everyday they have activity scheduals for kids/anyone such as: water polo, volleyball, soccer, water volleyball, water arobics, they also have tennis and basketball courts. They play music all day and its really great. Drinks are also included!! Huge pool!! And if you want to go to the main beach they have free busses from the hotel that will take you to any of the other 3 palace resorts. You can swim at the other hotels, eat, and drink the same as it would at the moon palace!! Its really wonderful. They have golfing and a spa place in the hotel also. The one thing I didnt like was the beach there isnt that great. But like I said you can go to the other beach for free 5 min ride!! There is so much to do and everyone is really great. Also everynight they have events for families. Such as Kareoke, and casino night (for kids), they also have shows too all free! this is an amazing hotel and have nothing bad to say at all!! The rooms are clean and its great for families!! I would def suggest the moon palace (nizuc side) to you. The other palace resorts are good also, but its more for teen adults. This is a great family place. Here is a link for the moon palace, and the other palace resorts. Hope this helped!!

We stayed at the Riu Cancun last year and it was family friendly. There are lots of activities for kids of different ages. There are several pools and a good beach.

I love Mexico and hate beach cities. If I had to choose I would stay downtown far away from the beaches, rent a car and visit all of the ruins within a days travel. Then I would take a drive to Merida, which is beautiful and not a beach city.

The palace resorts are nice all-inclusive, as well as the Riu. The Iberostar Lindo in Cancun/Playa del Carmen is very nice. I also have stayed at Fiesta American resorts, very nice as well, but not all-inclusive.

You may want to stay in Playa del Carmen its just 40min. south of Cancun. The town is more family oriented. Cancun has more of a club atmospher. Playa has one main street (5Th Ave.) several miles long and very safe. Hotels run all along the coast from Cancun south to Tulum. You should check out Tripadvisor.com, the hotel reviews are usually right on. The activities are closer to Playa as well. Check out Playatrips.com to check out some of the tours.

If you are looking for all-inclusive in Playa the Playacar Palace is great and it has a great location, two blocks from the ferry that goes to Cozumel every hour. The ferry is right off 5th Ave. A wise investment would be purchasing a map from cancunmap.com, I would suggest buying the Riviera Maya map. It shows the location of activities and hotel all the way down the coast from Cancun to Tulum.

Many people stay a few days in Cancun then move down to Playa or Akumal or Tulum for a few days. I would suggest this and plan your activities according to how close you are to each place.

One of my favorite places to stay, are the Xaman-Ha condos in Playa del Carmen. You can check them out on xhcondos.com, they are not all inclusive, but the location is next to the Playacar palace and the grounds, beach and pool are great. The prices are more than right. I can afford to stay anywhere and I always stay in one of the condos. (Feels more like home) It's quiet, close to 5th Ave. (a 3min. walk) gated neighborhood with a guard at the gate. They have a great ocean front view, pick out one that has been remodeled, you won't be disappointed. The pool is never crowded nor is the beach.

Lots to do, check out Xcaret.com, Xel-Ha.com, the Tulum ruins, Chichen-Itza ruins and maybe even check out some discover scuba at some of the dive shops.
Some of the best coral reefs in the world, you owe it to yourself to check them out. It is very easy and the instructors make it very safe as well. It is something that the whole family can enjoy together, it does not take a whole lot of physical effort. My wife was certified 2 years ago and now I can't keep her out of the water.
Going back to Playa in August staying at Xaman-Ha and then Moving to Cozumel Palace for a few days.
