It depends on what you want to do, what are your interest, and how you like to travel. Mexico have all kind of places to visit, from beaches to colonial citties.
I you like the beach, of course Cancun is beautiful, and there you can have nigth clubs, and shopping as well. If you visit Cancun, you can visit Xelha, Xcaret, and if you want to know some archeological contructions, you can visit Tulum.
But all of the Mexican caribean is good, you migth want something quiter and more relaxing, then you should try Playa del Carmen.

If you want to visit a colonial citty, and maybe go to some museums, you can try Queretaro, wich is a beautiful citty and you can go from there to San Miguel de Allende, or to the citty of Guanajuato.

There is Michoacan, where you can go to the Paricutin Volcan, and the water fall "La tzararacua".
Veracruz is another state, wich have great places, from the citty of Veracruz where you can enjoy the beach, some nice seafood, and the joy of the people from Veracruz.
Or you can come to Mexico Citty, Guadalajara or Monterrey, the three bigest citties in Mexico, every one of them have their own turistic places to visit.

Well I'd suggest Puerto Penasco, great beaches and not nearly as crouded as the more popular tourist areas...but still a lot of things to do, marketplace w/ shops, etc. great people too. Although, I've never been there that early in the year so the water'll probably be a little cold.
You said that you liked snorkeling...you can catch a boat and take it about an hour/hour and a half out to Bird Island. However, if you're used to snorkeling in crystal clear water like in Hawaii or something then you wont find it there but it more than makes up for that. There are lots of different fish and birds, but the main attraction out there is the sea lion colony that lives on the rocks. I don't know if you'd have a problem with that or not though cause they'll definately come into the water when you're there and there are a lot of them! They'll be swimming under you and along side of you, they may even bump you while you're there...no worries though the guys on the boat keep an eye on you. I'm pretty sure that it was Santiago's that you should look for a boat and gear at. |
