The major stuff happening in Mexico now are in acapulco, Michoacan, North East Mexico, Tijuana and Mexico City.

Most other tourist areas are low-risk.

I would suggest going with some male companions, though- that would increase your ability to be safe. I'd also suggest you avoid getting drunk, acting like an idiot or acting "promiscuous" even slightly, or that will invite trouble.

You are going to a very conservative country (think Small town Kansas- but more conservative). So please respect that!

i think the biggest factor with safely is your own behavior. if you get drunk, call attention to yourself as being too drunk to know what's going on, and then wander around...it's unsafe anywhere!!!

as far as safe places in mexico, i felt very safe in puerto vallarta. i have heard similar things about cabo. not so much about cancun though. and i would NOT recomment acapulco right now.

well.. it's all about "if it has to happen it will happen"... Cabo is a lot more.. not safe.. but calm place than Cancun... if what you want is beach.. and not the nightlife.. you may go to zihuatanejo... yeah.. it's in oaxaca but come on!! all oaxaca problems are over!

I would advise you not to go to any of those places because there have been many reports of pepole beign assulted. I would recomend for you and your sister to go to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo because it is not a common place but it is so beautiful and the beaches and it is alot cheaper if you go over there too it is like cabo and cancun but safer and there are police officers everywhere

Any where in the world you go is risky so if you are so concerned, don't go at all and stay here where you feel safer and spend your vacations in that place. And what ever you do try not to drink too much 'cause you will get taken advantage off specially if you are a tourist that do not speak the native language or lacks of territorial knowledge and what makes you more vulnerable is that you are a girl and now with money on vacations with no one else but her sister who is also a girl with money on vacations. Take some guy friends you can really trust and that know where their going and the language and that will know what to do in an emergency situation in case this may occur. Make sure they can handle people and them self's. you know what i mean?

Playa Del Carmen south of Cancun is more layed back with lots of shopping. I've been there 4 times and went once with just myself and my daughters. No problems at all. Lots of stuff to see and do.

Hi, well im from mexico and the safest place i think is michoacan, but cancun or cabo too... in all the places he is not uncertain and less in province but the uncertain thing that you can be found in Mexico it is the DF and all the places are not like that, but the important thing is that you have fun or no? you do not worry much for that reason.
