What is up with the US/Mexico border? |
I'm British and twice now I have travelled from San Diego to Tijuana simply by walking through some gates. No checks, no nothing. It was only through a friend I realised I had to seek out some special office and ask for permission to stay in Mexico for a certain amount of time. Quite the opposite when coming back into the States I might add................ |

Your question/observation is unique seeing as you're not from either country. However, you must realize the economic and human geography of the region to realize why this is so.
Many people (not just Mexicans anymore) use the U.S.-Mexico border to get into the U.S. illegally... this is both an economic and political issue. This has now become the favorite transit point for drugs into the ever lucrative drug consuming market that is the U.S.
Not many people want to illegally immigrate into Mexico... the Mexican government welcomes Americans who want to come and spend weekend money in Mexico... and tacitly welcomes loaded Americans evading taxes and/or running from the law. There generally hasn't been a lot of smuggling of anything into Mexico... save the occasional sex-slave (very tragic stories) or luxury clothes that haven't been taxed by the government. |

I have crossed back and forth between the US and Mexico probably 100 times at land crossings. For the last few years now, my least favorite part of travel is coming home! The times I have been inspected on the mexican side, the officials have been courteous and respectful and made me feel welcome. As you say, when returning to the US, "Quite the opposite!" It's amazing how Mexico manages to protect their country with such a low-key effort while our leaders have us scared to death of the "Boogie Man." The border is one of the best places to see america's neurosis on full display. I have literally seen passport carrying law-abiding US Citizens lined up along side buses, denied access to restrooms and yelled at by the Nazi SS border patrol "No talking!" while waiting to be sniffed by dogs. Not even inmates in prisons! It is surreal to me what we have let happen to our country. But then again they are doing it all "for us." |

Both of the Countrys are Messed up. The Fu***** D.E.A. knows where every drug dealer here in the US is at and in Mexico too and they take there time. They are always building up a case on a drug dealer. Like 50 years to build a case. Lmao so yea Blame the Governments dont blame the Citizens of Mexico or the US. |

Some how the American side thinks people will bring harm to America from the Mexican side, but it is quiet the opposite. It is the US weapons smuggled in the border to Mexico that keeps drug cartels strong and heavily arm. I think it is time for Mexican authorities to also conduct that same security checks to people coming from the US side into Mexico. |

Yeah, it's ******* pathetic, because it leads to so much money being sent back to mexico. There was actually a website that tracked the trillions of dollars sent back to mexico from illegals here, but I can't remember it. I'd pay extra taxes for a great wall of america to keep that **** on lock down. |
