What money to bring to Cabo San Lucas? |
I've never been before. What is the best way to pay for things? Should I just bring small bills in US currency? Use my credit cards at the nicer restaurants? Or should I convert some of my cash to pesos before we go (if so, how much)? Thanks! |

We do three things (four in Puerto Vallarta).
1. Bring USD's and after putting some aside, we
2. Exchange what we plan on using to Pesos.
3. We also bring American Express Travelers Checks.
In Puerto Vallarta, we simply transfer what USD Funds we need from our US bank to our Banamex bank account.
We try not to use credit cards as many establishments have employees that will rip off the card info. Happened to a friend in Mazatlan.
We've never had to use ATM's and prefer not to at this time. Best exchane rate we got was at HSBC. |

I lived in Mexico for 12 years.
I make several trips a year to Mexico.
I have always used my ATM/debit card. My bank charges me a $1.00 transaction fee and the Mexican bank does not charge me. I get a better exchange rate than I would for money because the banks work on million dollar transaction daily, and they pass it on to you.
It never hurts to have some small bills in US currency, especially if you are citizen of the USA.
This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America. Please pick an answer as best answer, even if it is not mine. |

Your answer depends on how much money you plan on spending, but to help you and estimate I would recommend you bring your credit cards to begin with. Use your credit cards only at nice shops/restaurants as you mentioned and when taking money out always use an ATM at a bank.
Second, I would recommend you exchange your US dollars for pesos and pay with pesos at most places such as souvenir stores. The main reason for it is because at some shops they won't respect the conversion rate and will take your $1 dollar for $10 pesos and that is not fair for you.
The approximate money you should convert is $400 USD, again it depends on how much you plan on spending. By the way, if you have enough time visit La Paz, Mexico. It is only 2.5 hours away and very beautiful. Que tengan un bonito viaje en Mexico! |

your own money, and then convert it to pesos over there. don't forget to convert back if you have any left at the end of the trip. |

Most places accept dollars, and credit cards. Nicer Restaurants, for sure.
And if you want to buy something not so expensive, local souvenirs for example you will need pesos.
I would not exchange more than 100us if you don't need it all you can always exchange it back.
I also recommend you exchange your dollars in Mexico, since they won't charge you extra fees |
