What part of Mexico do u guys recommend?

Hey everyone. I'm flying out to LA from Boston in March to visit my friend for a week. We were thinking about driving to Mexico to spend a few days. We were considering Tijuana, but now we're not sure because people say it's very dangerous. We want to go somewhere where there's a lot of culture, but not too far from the border..not a really tourist-y place. Any suggestions or advice?

People aren't reading the question carefully.

"We want to go somewhere where there's a lot of culture, but not too far from the border."

Unfortunately, such a place does not exist. Tijuana is nothing like the towns you find much further south in mainland Mexico.

There are numerous places with "a lot of culture" in central and southern Mexico. A few (but limited) in the northeast of Mexico, but not near the border. Nothing near LA.

Puerto Penasco, Sonora. a.k.a Rocky Point, if you really want to have fun common over,

It is not dangerous and there is a lot of freedom, all you got to know is the right people and the right places to go. Local night clubs, that is good, want to know more, ask me.

Well when i went on this cruise, we went to Costa Maya, Mexico. We got to ride in these dune buggies to this private beach! It was really fun! I would suggest there but i doubt you will be able to get to the private beach! Ha ha! I like some of their like shopping markets, but the people there can be a little ignorant at times. All I mean by that is that they like you to buy their stuff and they like to get to where they want to go which is why they can be a little pushy.

Get on I-10 and drive to Arizona; when you hit AZ-85, head south to Lukeville. This border crossing is closed from midnight to 6am. It will be a seven hour drive. Cross the border there (no passport needed--just a birth certificate and drivers license). From the border drive to Puerto Penasco (one more hour). See the link below for hotels there.

Rivera Maya. 45 minutes south of Cancun. Less people, larger beaches, better resorts and closer to the cultural attractions like Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza.

With all the kidnappings and beheadings of Americans now days in Mexico....
I suggest you walk across to TJ, have a few 50 cent shots of ta-kill-ya and stumble back to the good ol' USA.
