What prescription medication can you get in Mexico? |
Does anyone know what medications are legal to get in Mexico? I am told painkillers are not legal to bring across the border, but they will sell them to you. Does anyone have experience in this? I have a friend who asked me for a few things and I dont feel like going to jail in Mexico.... Additional Details Really, I am not a junkie, but what about things like Aderal (for Adhd). They have a prescribtion, but say its cheaper there. Or Zanex (friend has script as well). I want to help them, but not to the demise of myself. Thanks |

I LIVE in Mexico. Many medicines are available without prescritions, BUT, the only PAIN meds that are avail without prescription are non-addictive, non-narcotic drugs. Controlled drugs in the U.S. are also controlled here and require a prescription. In border towns, you may find places that supposedly sell controlled drugs, but you never know what is actually in those meds! Taking "regular" meds back is usually not a problem, but do not take the chance on trying to take illegally obtained controlled substances back. Voltaren (generic name Diclofenaco) is a common pain med for arthitis and other chronic pain conditions and does not require a prescription. It is not a controlled drug and is non-addictive. |

not a problem at all.. no medication is illegal to cross to Mexico, except the obvious non-medication substances. |

You can buy almost any medication in any drugstore in Mexico without a prescription just ask and they bring it to you, if it is something restricted like sleep pills or that kind of drug they just tell you you cant buy it without a written prescription, and in Mexico you don't have any problem with that (you don't go to jail for buying medications!!), also they are much cheaper than here..
BUT I don't know you can bring them back to the US, at least not without a written prescription... I've never done this but maybe it could work, you can go to a drugstore, there are some that sell generic medication and have their own doctor in site so you can ask for a consultation and tell the doctor you need a written prescription and they can give you one. And the fee is like 2 dollars. And then you have your prescription.
Any way just don't buy any medication that are too censored here, you can have a problem, but for antibiotics I don't think so, I bring my own antibiotics and pain medication every time I go there.
But If you don't feel like doing it, just tell your friend |
