What stuff is expensive in Mexico?

I'm traveling to Mexico on company business, I understand there are some things there that are very expensive, such as imported electronics. Do you think I could buy a couple iPods or a Wii or something here and take it down with me and sell it for a profit?

Unless you have a license to import for resale, then it is against the law.

This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America.

Bringing new products into Mexico for resale is against the law. You would make a few bucks, not much, but it certainly is not worth it. Why risk it? A really unwise idea.

Listen to Charlie. Where exactly are you planning to sell these things? On a street corner? In a business meeting? You employer will be thrilled if you get caught, and Mexico has inspections just like the US does.

I just check the Apple Mexico site. Prices are general around 25% higher.

Depends where in Mexico you're going. Places that are about 2 hrs drive from the border you probably won't make much money since people like to drive up to the US for big purchases like that. Further south you might do better, but look at: http://www.apple.com/mx/
They've got the same prices as in the US.

Wii's might do better though:

Most of the things that require a certain amount of technology will be higher in price in Mexico, My I pod 80gb, regular for example cost me here in Mexico 450 US, or my flat screen 52" cost me 1800 usd.

So if you can bring your electronics with you, just that in mexican customs they will probably make you pay the importing taxes for it if they make you a search.

The person who told you that electronics are expensive is right. Actually, if we have the chance to visit the States we get electronic stuff such as Ipods and Xbox because for us it's cheaper to get them up there. On the other hand you'll find food, lodging and entertainment inexpensive.

pep
You are totally right. Electronics are ridiculous here. If you find buyers, yes, you can sell them. Just please don't take advantage of people. The rich probably already had 2-3 of everything....so make a fair price so the average guy can buy electronics too. Go to an electronics place like Coppel, see what price they are charging, and then knock down your price a few hundred pesos.

If you are not going to border towns, my advice Wii, Xbox, GAMES, palms are very scarce here centros are almost not available and you said business trips, therefore maybe the same people there will be interested ipod accessories not the iPod or iPhone they are same price.
