What to do in Cozumel in 10 hours? |
I'm going on a cruise with my former college roommates (we're all in our early 40s now) and will have about 10 hours in Cozumel (11am-8pm). What to do? I could take one of several side trips (snorkeling, jet skiing, etc.), but I also wouldn't mind seeing the area with my friends.
Also, if you have any suggestions for 5 hours in Key West, please let me know.
Thanks. |

just got back from a cruise in cozumel..it was great! ur gonna love it..first thing..do not i repeat do not book an excursion for cozumel through your ships excursion desk..get off the boat, walk down the peier and find the guy "There will be several of them" holding the sighn and trying to talk to you about renting a vehichle..follow him..!!..50 bucks for the entire time ur in port, plus 12 dollars for insurance, just in case. Its a very reputable rental company and we got a jeep wrangler..Watch the speed bumps leaving town, they sneak up on ya..thank god for 4 wheel drive suspension..lol..anyways than u have a jeep or whatever ur preferred type of car is to go where u want. the island only takes about an hour to get around, the beaches are so great u wont want to leave any of them, but i suggest u do in order to see all of them or at least most of them..Paradise beach is awesome..be sure to keep ur little map from the rental guy it shows on map about mayan ruins, lighthouse..etc..anywaysparadise beach is free, like all the otehrs..50 dollars for a half hour on a jet ski..worth the moeny..u can sit back in the little lawn chair sipping a pina colada while u wait your turn, or u can both gt one..then go to jamaican beach..its right by the lighthouse..the beach there is even nicer than the one before it..the water is like playing in the wave pool at 6 flags except these waves are soo much cooler!! I dont want to ruin it for ya..but everyone we spokle to who booked an excursion was more disappointed than anything else..all of the 4by4 tours are like follow the leader same with the so called speed boats, was told that they dont go very fast..anyways 8 hours will fly by..rent the car and explore on your own..you wont be disappointed. |

I would rent a jeep, and drive to the other side of the island, it doesn't take long. It is very remote, beautiful etc. White sand beaches and huge waves.... You can also see archeological ruins at el cedral. There is also a small Museum that is walking distance from the dock. Cozumel is a very safe and friendly place! Have fun! |

Plenty to do in Cozumel. Go shopping and you can get drunk on the free samples of tequila.
Check out www.cruisecritic.com. They have message boards on the different port of calls. Plenty of recommendations. |

i highly recomend either snorkeling (i went on a sting ray snorkle trip last spring...not sure if they offer that) or some other aquatic event through the cruise line. if you're up to the adventure (and it isn't actually that scary) you could go parasailing!
other wise just walk around and shop/see the sights. but anything that requires more organization, i would suggest going through the cruise line |

If you snorkel/scuba then you are probably aware that Coz has the 2nd best reef in the world, after the Great Barrier. If that's not your idea of a good time...
Try this website; it has suggestions for "Cruisers" who have a day to spend on Coz:

If you want to have the freedom to do your own thing on the island, I suggest you hire a taxi van (request a rate for as many hours as you need him, before you get in) to take you snorkeling to "Playa Corona", which is a small beach bar with gear rental and good snorkeling right off the beach. From there go farther south and hit Nachi Cocum Beach Club, where you can enjoy the sandy beach and water sports. There is a good size pool with swim up bar and restaurant there as well. From there you can go to the other side of the island and go to Playa Bonita &/or Chen Rio. You have the bigger waves on this side, but these two areas are the safer spots to swim and ride the waves. Then continue your complete tour of the island and get dropped off downtown to shop or have a couple more cold ones, before getting back to the ship! The whole tour can easily be done in 6-8 hours, depending how long you stay at each stop!
Have Fun! |

Hi,
You'll have a fun time if you first rent a car and drive around the island and see the other-side. One place you guys will enjoy is "Coconuts on the hill" it's a bar and hang out. You'll have to check out the scrap books and see if you recognize anyone. The trip around the island will take you about three hours with a couple of stops. Items purchased on the backside are a lot less that in town. One stop you guys will like is Chankanaab Park. This is a sea-side park with snorkeling and diving. You'll dive a lagoon with all types of local fish and sea life. This is fun. with this stop you'll add a few hours to your trip around the island so plan your time and you'll do just fine.
What to do while in Key west. There is a couple of tours around town that take about an hour. You can visit the "Gold" Treasure Museum . This is all about the recovery of a lot of treasure from a local shipwreck. You can also visit the end of "Highway One" this is the lower end of the coastal road from Maine in the north the Key west in the South.
Have Fun |
