Well, I'm mexican and I've been to both states many times and I would recommend Oaxaca, it's less developed and you would experience the real Mexico there. |

I love Oaxaca, Oaxaca. Whether it's just sitting under the portales and drinking coffee and watching people around the Zocala. or going to the top of Monte Alban and looking down on the valley below. Plus there are so many different crafts being produced in the towns close by, like the weavers in Teotitlan del Valle--great stuff. Click the link below to read about 44 thing to do and see in and around Oaxaca. |

I too love Oaxaca but have never been to Guerrero. Oaxaca city is beautiful, and the surrounding area has a wealth of artisans and fascinating ruins. Oaxaca also has a fairly good sized ex-pat community. Unless your Spanish is fairly fluent, living in a village is difficult. More people know a little English in the city. There is also a Yahoo Group for Oaxaca you might want to join.
Get a copy of People's Guide to Mexico and Head for Mexico and read them both. They will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. |

Moving down there is a serious decision...if I were you, I would try spending time in them both. Guanajuato, Guanajuato and San Luis Potosi and Chiapas are also very nice, but actually, there are so many beautiful areas there. I have considered the move myself, and I came up with the plan of living where the weather suited me...a winter home Coast) and a summer location (mountains).
Spending a year or more roaming sounds so awesome. You could let "home" find you. |

I live in Oaxaca and I cant stand it, people have become very hositle and violent lately and there have been many kidnappings of innocent people. Poeoiple stopped obeying the trafic laws and the town is a mess people are rude and stuck up now. IM telling you the truth. But Oaxaca Is very beautiful I woud suggest it but outside of the city. THere is alot to see and if your in town your welcome to visit me. My family has an orphangage here if you are into volonteer work. Email me if you have anyquestions. |

In oaxaca, try Oaxaca city or a small town closed to Oaxaca city, In Guerrero Taxco is beautiful. U can not go wrong with any of these town cities. |
