You got all wrong answers so far. The requirement for a passport for LAND travel to and from Mexico will not go into effect until later than summer 2008. Sometime next summer a new announcement will be made about the exact date. See website below and read the top half of the page carefully for the correct, CURRENT information. |

It looks like mid year now. Just have all your IDs with you, if you are a citizen of the US, they can't keep you out of the country. It will just be a hassle. Get the passport, you've had plenty of time. The government was totally unprepared for the rush on passports. |

You might be too late to get one in the time frame your looking for. It took me 10 weeks to get mine. Call your local post office because they have the information on passports. That's where I got mine. |

Just take your passport and U.S. ID with you before you live for Mexico, if you are not an American born citizen take your green card too, or naturalization papers. Even if it's January, or February does it matter??
There are temporary passport for three days, maybe look for that at city hall or ask the post office.
It's better to have too much than not enough. (Just be careful)
