You don't need your passport, just your driver's license. If you don't have a passport, it might be a good idea to bring a copy of your birth certificate, just to be safe.

With the long lines in immigration your better off crossing the river. As soon as you jump over the wall and they catch you then you can say, "Hey I am an American Blonde can't you see?".

If you go by plane, you better take your passport with you. You also have to fill in an immigration form.
If you go by car, I think you only need to show them an ID. You must pay a tax, and then you will be allowed to come and go for 6 months or so.

As of yet, it is not required to have a passport to go from the US to Mexico and vise verse.

For security I would have and show your passport regardless of when or where you enter. Things have gotten tougher at the border lately.

A driver's license is enough (or other official ID).

You have to show your passport any time you come back from other country whatever it is.

What do you mean with "can I say something",?

Mariposa
You have to show them a picture id and your birth certificate if you are a natural born citizen.

You need a government issued picture i.d. and birth certificate. Or your passport.

It depends - if you are flying then yes ---
but i just got back from a month in Juarez, Mexico which is right across the border from El Paso Tx --- and i drove and walked across the border almost everyday -- the actual rule is u need a picture ID(drivers license) plus one other thing like a birth certificate --but whenever i drove or walked through the checkpoint they would ask "citizenship?" and you just say "American" and show them your ID and they let you go through - somedays they didnt even look at my ID and just let me through ---- but the laws are changing about passports and stuff starting the beginning of next year so i dont know how strictly they will enforce the rule because so many Americans ans Mexicans go across everyday --- look at the us travel department website for the laws ---

I'm an agent, so please allow me to give you a complete and correct answer. If you go and return from Mexico by Dec. 31, 2006 you can go with an official copy of your birth certificate and a gov't issued picture ID, such as driver's license or state ID. The birth certificate must be obtained from the health dept. of the city in which your were born and must contain their raised seal. An ordinary copy will not be accepted.

You may also use a passport. Beginning Jan. 1, 2007 you will need a passport to leave and re-enter the U.S from any country, including Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

If you are a recently married female your airline ticket and whatever ID you are using to leave and re-enter the U.S. must all contain the same name, so I'd recommend booking everything in your maiden name until you have ID with your married name. Otherwise, you will need to take along your original marriage licensr (issued by a gov't office - not the church - and not a copy - must be the original). Be prepared for delays and lots of questions if you have a married name on your plane ticket and maiden name on your ID - even if you bring along your marriage license.

If you need a passport, apply for it ASAP as everyone is trying to get one now that it will be required everywhere and it takes a lot longer than usual to get them after you've applied - figure 8 - 10 weeks unless you pay to have it expedited.

Hope this helps.
