When is the best time to book a trip to Cancun?

The earlier you travel in June, the lower your rates will probably be as it is approaching the summer busy season. The time of booking doesn't matter as rates are fixed far in advance. Your cheapest rates begin in mid-late April, into June, then begin again in September, up until the Christmas holidays (with the exception of Thanksgiving week). Busiest season is from the week of Christmas thru mid April. As airfares are only seeming to go up, I would watch the prices for awhile and then grab the best price you see, and not wait too much longer.

If you go in January or february is CHEEEAP and you'll have a BLAST

June-Aug, vacation time (full of people and more expensive)

March-May Spring breakers and more people and high season

Anytime is a good time... well except early spring, that's rain season. If you want cheap, look into the fall up until right before Christmas. Flights are down, tourist season is low and prices at resort are down.
I suggest renting a timeshare, like at the Mayan Palace. They come with 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, jacuzzi, full kitchen, dining area and a living room. Sleeps about 6-8. Will save money on lodging. Definitely cheaper by the person.

Also, look at January, but avoid late january and february.

June is not going to be the cheapest time to go just because you it is in the summer which is peak travel season. However, booking early is definitely a good plan and there are always specials.
