If you are starting from an American city and headed to Monterrey, Chihuahua, etc. the greyhound site is probably best. It is true you will have to walk across the border, but the bus tickets will be coordinated.
- If you are looking at Mexico City to Cancun (including Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Palenque, Chiapas, Merida, Tulum, etc.) look at the ADO site. They have a number of lines of various levels of luxury like OCC, ADO, ADO-GL, and UNO. All of these are first class bus lines. NOTE: ADO does not include tickets to Acapulco.
- Second class bus tickets are almost impossible to buy on-line. Most second class bus lines are also competing with the slightly more expensive suburban van services.
-----------------
Bus travel has considerably more choices in Mexico than it does in the USA. Intercity travel by bus is very much an executive or middle-class option whereas it is almost non-existent in the USA outside of the NYC area. The downside is that it can be very complex. There are five major inter-city bus terminals in Mexico City (including the one at the airport). The Guadalajara bus terminal looks like JFK. It is particularly difficult for trips over 14 hours that may involve changing buses.
- Without more specific knowledge (EDIT your question) it is difficult to help you. Larpman has a general review of the Mexican bus company websites.
--------------------
The only remaining inter-city passenger rail is Los Mochis to Chiahuahua via the copper canyon. There are a few tourist trains in the Yucatan which are very expensive, and a weekend train trip from downtown Guadalajara to the town of Tequila. |

Actually, there are buses that cross the border now...you do not have to get off and walk across the bridge, tho you can.
There are many bus lines in Mexico..and which one you take on into Mexico from the border area depends on where you cross the border if you cross in Laredo or McAllen ( the best place and the best bus station), you can take a Senda bus...excellent line that goes to Mexico City. You can get connectionss in Mexico city to any place. Some lines have good websites some do not. Greyhound will get you to the border, then you can purchase your ticket for onward travel. Watch your luggage on Greyhound...they are really good at losing it. |

Bus and trains stop at the border. You need to cross the border into Mexico and go to the Bus Depot there. Sorry, NO passenger trains in Mexico other than the one to Copper Canyon. |
